Oh yes, leek and potato soup with a good dollop of cream in it and grated cheese which just melts into it! Not too much cheese but just enough to make it stringy and gooey, with a big chunk of bread to dip in.....:D

The kids are doing karate this evening and when I asked them to get their kit ready this morning it became apparent that it was nowhere near white! So into the washing machine it went and now it is almost dryish. So standing here trying to summon up the enthusiasm to iron it which is not too exciting I have to say - they must be the most difficult things in the world to iron!!!

oh well, best get back to it, while I have my thoughts on gooey leek and potato soup!

Hi Hypno...my how busy you are you must never get time to yourself...you always seem to be running around somewhere....it's so good to see your kids are doing activities so much better than lazing around watching tv....I'm so proud that you haven't cut the kids activities out and that you are still clearing large sums of debt....that's a brilliant achievement!!!...well done

Hi Taxi, we manage to keep up the kids activities in a number of ways:

    1. Our ski club works on a volunteer basis so for every hour that a willing parent helps out, they "earn" an hour's free skiing for them or their children. So guess what we end up doing in our ample spare time

    2. We don't possess xbox or playstation etc and never have done so haven't had to get caught up in buying accessories or games for them.

    3. We don't feed our kids, thereby saving money on the food budget ;)

The children are well aware of the financial situation and have learnt that they have choices, but that sacrifices have to be made, so if they want to ski or do karate, basketball etc, then they have to go without other stuff that other kids may take for granted.

They are also very good of trading a week's ski racing for all their christmas presents! Their choice!

I think a few days of staying with us would scare most kids witless. Adults too!

I also still have 8pm bedtimes for them which apparently is "so not fair" as everyone else in their class is allowed to stay up until "at least 11pm".....

I think you do so right discussing finances with your children and strongly believe budgetting should be part of the school curricculum...as so many kids don't know where money comes from...you are bringing up well adjusted children and teaching them valuable life skills...they'll thankyou for those when they grow up
