Nenen, I agree with you wholeheartedly, and in a perfect world it would be great if people were kind, thoughtful of others feelings in these situations. Unfortunately not everyone is. Adults can be as bad as children as I'm sure everyone has experienced. I think the point I was trying to make (and didn't!) was that it's that we need to help our children to deal with these knocks, and hurt without becoming upset and like it themselves.

God, this reminds me of when I was young....

I remember one occasion when I got an invitation to a party in a fast food restaurant, when I turned up (in full on party gear) I was told that there was no party. When I got to school on the Monday I found out that the party was actually in the boy in question's house. I have never found out why I was tricked in this way and it still bothers me!!

My sister and I used to have a huge party in our house for our birthdays (they are only 2 weeks apart), we used to invite both of our classes and most of the year in between! There is no way that my mum would have left anyone out....

i have never been one of those mums that invite the whole class to a party...wether it be at home or at a playcenter......i choose a few close friends and that way..can afford to be a liitle bit more lavish with presents ,food and party bags

  • I personally can't imagine why anyone would want to invite the whole class!

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

I'm glad your son was so grown up about not being able to go.
I'm lucky my children have never been the only one left out in their class but I remember my sons birthday party when he was 7. He was telling me who he wanted to invite & he mentioned 1 of his friends. I asked how come he wanted to invite this boy when he wasnt allowed many to invite & he wasn't in his usual "best friends" circle. He said well Scott always gets invited to parties so he wont mind missing mine this once & Paul was being bullied the other day & I was the only one who stood up for him so I think he might like to come & have a treat with people who like him. I just wanted to cry for him. After handing the boy the invite at school, the next morning his mum came up to me practically in tears & said that it was the 1st party he had been invited to & he felt so special. I was glad we could be a part of that & the boy was wonderful & so well behaved. He always makes a special beeline to talk to me now as I made his week/month or possibly his year by "allowing him to come".
