I am going to quit as of NOW. I have a few patches which I'll use over the next few days to allow me to prepare for the withdrawal symptoms when they're finished.
I did it before and I WILL do it again.
Morning Dave,
Very good news to hear that really positive attitude and I truly wish you well with finally getting to grips with this monster once and for all!!!
As you say, you've done it before so the chances are good. However, I'd still suggest you make an appointment at your Drs surgery to see a Cessation Nurse as I think you could be one of those who would benefit immensely from the 1 to 1 physical contact and chat.
I quite agree with you in that you can't go on thinking "I'll quit tomorrow" as, in truth, it rarely happens; grab the bull by the wotsits and go forward, Dave!! Don't wait until your health starts to become a problem...or the risks become higher!! You've struck out now - now keep it up!!!
Keep thinking positively. Also, start to think about things (hobbies etc) that you can pick up before you stop taking the patches, something you really enjoy and that takes your concentration.
I don't know just how many of the posts you've read here on the thread, but there are some pretty inspirational ones to be found, give it a go and see just what you can draw from them too.
A very helpful idea, to my mind, is from warez who wears an elastic band round her wrist, then every time her mind starts to wander - she twangs the band - and her thoughts are then taken up by that pain, try it and see if that works for you!
Always remember, Dave, you're giving up nothing by stopping the fags, but you'll start to gain as soon as you stop....money and mostly your health!!
Free yourself as we've all done because you know you can! You've lready started your journey...ok with a little help from the patches...but it's still YOU that made the decision to stop!!
Bon voyage, Dave, we're with you and you CAN do it.Keep repeating your last sentence quoted above.

****I view it as like swimming across a lake, when you have got to a certain point, it is much easier to keep swimming forward to the other side, than to turn around and swim back. And the reward for one is so much greater than the other, even though you have swum much the same distance. Bizarre analogy, I know, but it works for me.*****
Morning warez! By golly you're doing wonderfully and how close you are to the other side of that lake. :T:T
I LOVE the view you have in mind (quoted above) it's splendid way of making certain you never go back. If that's a bizarre analogy then we're all living in cloud cuckoo land - I reckon it's a marvellous way to make folk stop and think and see the sense in keep on pushing forward and getting to their goal. Another for the first post of page 1 for sure!
You have some great ideas, warez, and are inspiring many! Keep em coming...as you keep going forward.

Can I join again please? I desperately need to stop smoking. I stopped for almost 3 weeks but stress saw my buy a pack last night. I've finally got my operation in. 3 weeks and must be smoke free for it.
I feel like I have undone all my hard work by smoking again, and am very cross with myself for it. Got to be onwards and upwards now though.0 -
Hi Part Mouse
Welcome to the wonderful journey you are about to undertake! Good luck, keep posting and we will be with you every step.
Have a good day, onwards and upwards.Smoke Free since 1 January 20130 -
Hi there, Part Mouse, good to see you again!
To have an op in just 3 weeks time you really need to go forward from this moment on! Still, I'm sure that if you've done it once you can do it again - and then keep right on moving forward!!
How are you stopping - NRT or cold turkey?
You know how much I want this for you, PM, so please keep on striving to be fag-free - it will happen....IF you want it enough!!
What makes you cave in?
I'll send you another PM just in case you don't have the other.
Come on, PM, let it be THIS time!!!

Hi sue
Thanks for the reply. For me stress is the trigger and there's plenty if that around right now. In terms of smoking and the risks with surgery if I smoke and given the amount of nerve damage I've got there's a fair amount if risk that tissue won't make it/ blood supply can't be reestablished. I'm really worried about the surgery to which doesn't help.
I'm going cold turkey again. I've tried patches, gum and so on before.

Please try had not to worry, PM, it won't help in any way whatsoever and will only bring on more stress!
Try to relax and remember that there's nothing else you can do - apart from be free of fags, doing so will make you feel sooo very much better and it's amazing just how quickly your body can recover, many parts f it in less that 3 weeks!
Given your previous attempts, I was really pleased to see you're going cold turkey this time as I think that's the best way to conquer it for you.
Even at times of stress - what good will a fag do?? Nothing at all.!!! It only heightens the desire for the next fag..and the next..and the next and so forth. Stay firm with your promise yourself NOT to buckle, but do something productive instead like going on out for a walk - anything at all apart from stewing over fags as it's just not worth it.
All best wishes. PM, you CAN do it. I did it and if I can anyone can!!!

Thanks Sue
I do think cold turkey is the best way for me, when I stopped for 3 years that was the method I used and that was the longest I had quit for.
I'm making sure I'm getting lots of fruit and veg to keep my strength up.

Good luck tomorrow. You can do it.
I so very nearly buckled the other day, but then you posted this:everybody is doing so well even though it's hard on occasions we just have to support each other because together we are all stronger then nic :j :j ((( big hugs everyone ))) xx
and it gave me a warm glow which then spurred me on to carry on.
Hope we can, at some point, return the favour.
Think happy thoughts and the rest will find itself.Smoke Free since 1 January 20130
