Thanks Jammy for the words of support. Just logged on for some moral support as climbing the walls here! Going for my patches at lunchtime so hopefully that will help.
OH actually brought up the subject last night and I calmly told him that I am not expecting him to give up but he needs to cut down as we can't afford it. He only had 3 last night (as did I) instead of our usual bucket-load so I think he is coming round already. I told him that I couldn't deal with telling myself I am stopping but as I only had half of my intake yesterday I was really proud.
So got the support I need....thank you and off to do some work now.
Thanks all x0 -
Hi Guys, thought I'd check in. Had a few crap weeks at work and felt like I could really do with a fag but have kept resisting and here are my stats...
Five months, five days, 20 hours, 25 minutes and 11 seconds.
2382 cigarettes not smoked, saving £714.64.
Life saved: 1 week, 1 day, 6 hours, 30 minutes.
I can't believe how long I've managed. I actually thought I'd never do it! I can't wait for the 6 month mark
Just a bit annoyed that I can't change my signature to say 5 months lol
a year today Salogo:j:j:j:j
well done too on your fag free journey you are doing brilliantly :T:T it does get easier as time flies on , thoughts of smoking get less and less and it would be heartbreaking to undo all the hard work of giving nic the heave ho once and for all
You DONT need them stay strong and e the one in control for good

Fantastic news about you BOTH, Fergie!! :T:T
I'm wondering how you got on with the CN, very well I hope. It's all down to you now, but you know that you have support all along the way.
Stopping smoking is something all of us believe we won't be able to, but that's only the nicotine that makes us think like that. After we stop all of us then tend to say to others "If I can do it - anyone can!" and it's so very, very true.
Yes it takes willpower and it takes courage to begin it all with, but everyone of us CAN stop!!
Another thing to try to bear in mind is that most of us stop then say "It isn't half as bad as I thought it would be!" That word 'thought' says it all, we spend too long in thinking how hard it's going to be....thinking we won't be able to do it....thinking life won't be the same after we've stopped.
I was like that for years, way too many years! Then I cut it right down - then stopped and it's the honest truth when I tell you that is was the very best thing I ever did in life!!! I no longer have to live my life according to how many fags I have...or how many will X amount see me through to....and how much can I afford?!!!!! I got down to rollies thinking they would help me quit, I hated my Dad-in-law's so thought that was the trick. NO! I got sucked into being hooked to them too, even though I rolled them as thin as was possible.
Take the bull by the horns, Fergie and trust that time and courage will see you through this - and you will never be beholden to fags ever again! I've got my life back, so has Jo, agingbiker, JD, Joop, Chrissie, Sal, Pam, Feedumall, larmy, 3XsAlady, Carl, Nick, Choille, oldreekie, Daz, donnaessex, splishsplash, dundeedoll, Lippycow, ceebeebies, Denis, Cathy, Daveys, drsmum, Kiwisaver, Moneymaker, splishsplash and countless others (please forgive me those of you who I just can't bring to mind right now) - and that's just via the different threads we've had here on MSE!!!!! Pretty darned good eh?!
So YES! YOU too can do it and add your name/s to the ever-growing list, other lurkers reading this thread too! Sieze the day, your lives also!
Bon voyage!

Hi all
Went to the CN at lunchtime and what a lovely lady. Came away with the 21mg 24 hour patches (due to the amount I smoked) and an inhalator for top-up times.
Had my last cig at 8.30am today and put it out and said 'goodbye old friend, and good riddance'. At that moment a funeral procession drove by which I took to be one of the most significant signals I had ever received.
Not smoked now for 7.5 hours and must say feel absolutely fine. Probably due to the patches and the inhalator but hey ho, I can do this!!
Feel a bit dizzy and ate 2 bars of choccy but so what.
Thanks again Sue for the wonderful support and care you offer us all.
Big test tonight as wine is brought into the equation but I intend to stay strong.
Thanks all xxxx0 -
Hi all
Well it's been almost 11 and a half days - Have had a few moments this week when I've looked at a smoker and felt a twinge of jealousy but I keep repeating my non smoker mantra of being happy and lucky not to smoke and I've held strong.
I'm sorry to hear about your problems determined new ms. Try to keep strong and hope to see you in here for some chats and words of support from all the members x
Fergie - Well done on cutting down - I read the Allen Carr book from my local library and found it great. Looking forward to every day as a non smoker rather than wishing I was smoking like when I've quit previously.
Good luck all

CONGRATULATIONS Fergie!!!!!!! :T That's the best news I've had all day and I couldn't be more happy for you!!!So strange about the funeral procession passing, if that wasn't an omen, I don't know what was! Keep that image in mind IF you get any thoughts, it may well be your saving grace.
Do go careful with all alcohol, you know what's best, but don't forget the PLEDGE!!!!!!!
It's YOUR LIFE in your hands, Fergie, keep hold of it and treat it well, you'll need it. Plenty of exercise and help cleanse those lungs.
MANY best wishes!

Brilliant news prophecy_grrl!!!!! :T You're doing amazingly! Just one point, next time you see a smoker...feel sorry for them and hope they, like you, will soon see the light!! Well done with the mantra, all those things really are incredible to help us through.
I love your last sentence (highlighted above), isn' that just the very best way to view stopping smoking!
Excellent p_grrl, you've no doubt motivated many by your words! Onward you go, you have so much to look ahead to. :j

Well.....had the wine.....AND NO FAGS..YAY!!!
I can't believe I really did it. That was the one test I was really worried about as it is our Friday night routine for me and OH to drink some wine in the kitchen and talk about our week. This is ususally accompanied by chainsmoking.
Instead, we did everything as ususal but neither of us smoked. Really can't believe OH's attitude. He said he always thought he could stop but not when I was smoking so much. He has no patches or anything and just isn't smoking.......incredible.
I must admit I was puffing on the inhalator like a bit of a loon sometimes but not one fag..........amazing.
My first day over with as a non-smoker and I feel euphoric.
Having a coffee now which again would prompt fag after fag but not even tempted. Got a new patch on as other one mysteriously disappeared during the night.
And I must say folks that last night this forum kept coming to mind and I felt not only would I be letting myself down (when the 'just one' demon kept shouting) but I would also somehow be letting you guys down.
So thank-you, thank-you, thank-you for the wonderful support you are offering me.

A VERY good morning to you, Fergie and what exciting news from the TWO of you!!!!!! :T :T I am sooooo thrilled for you both and so excited for your future prospects if you keep it up one day at a time!! Imagine how your OH has felt all this time! He's doing brilliantly without any NRT, but as I've said, fellars do seem to sail through it (no PMT etc). Keep going forward.
Every now and then we get really GREAT posts like yours and it's marvellous to hear how people are simply buzzing with thoughts of being free from old Nic, this has to ranked amongst the best, especially as there are the TWO of you starting your journeys together!!!
Don't worry too much about the inhalator - get free from the fags for at least a few days then, when it feels right, slowly wean yourself off - but don't rush!
Did you download the Silk Quit meter that JD spoke about? If not then I'd urge you to do so as it's so exhilarating to keep check on your savings, amount not smoked and life saved etc http://www.silkquit.org/sqmmiv/meter.aspx
Have a go and see what you think, many swear by it.
So, coffee time is free from fags time too then, brilliant!!!!!
I truly am so excited for you both, and yes, keep us in your mind, almost as though we're there willing you along every step of the way. We want you to have what you want, to be free from Nic and getting your health back and - your pockets lined!
Go team Fergie!!!!!!!!!!
