Hi everyone, good to see such a successful lot of people together!
Hi there JD!!! Brilliant advice and tips for Cathy, superb! 8 months came at last then.....and there was you thinking the day would never come a week or so ago.The way you're going right now, JD, I'd be surprised if you're not soon celebrating a 12 month free! You too Chrissie!!
Thanks girls, you too Denis.
Sue xx
Keep it up, RainbowDreamer and keep off the carbs as they'll make you more tired, but JD is right in all she says. I do hope you're feeling a little better now, if not you soon will be.
Sue xEveryday you don't smoke a fag is a day closer to the next big milestone and a palpable sense of empowerment and achievement that brings. You've all done so amazingly well to come this far, even if it's only a day, a week, a month, a year or many years.
I do still have those little butterflies in the stomach moments where I feel the need to stop and have a fag, but they rarely last more than a fleeting moment.
Hi there, Kiwi!!!! :hello: It really is wonderful to see you back and with such a huge inspiring story to tell. 16 months eh?!!!!! You've done marvellously and just think of the many savings!!V e r y ....m a n y ....c o n g r a t u l a ti o n s!! :T:T:T:T
The highlighted part of yours is so well put and exactly how it is!
I also had those butterfly seconds for a good while, but it really does just disappear in the end and I never even think about it anymore.
Don't forget where we are as it's always lovely to have you join us with your thoughts. See you soon! :grinheart

Glad to see a few more people adding to our little band - i love to read stories from those that are further on their journey than i am - really does help to keep me motivated.
hugs

Hiya Chrissie! So good to see that, by now, you'll have had your first contenders and I do hope they love it and will care for it for you. I quite agree with others sharing their stories too, it's all such great motivation for others. Keep it up folk, please.
All best wishes, Sue xxBeen giving up smoking for over 20 years now, (I'm 43) and today I intend to succeed.
Guess I will just have to give up alcohol and stressing too!
Trouble with the gum is I find it gives me a thumping headache and makes me feel a bit sick. Does anyone else find this? It is working though, I have no cravings at the moment yay!! Am just chewing on a very tiny bit at the moment. Is it better to have gum when you really really want a cigarette or to have some at regular intervals to pre-empt the cravings as it were?
Cathy
A very warm welcome to you, Cathy! You rant as much as you wish as it really helps get it out of your system.
Some folk have reported headaches with most NRTs, if it's doing you good and stopping the cravings, then see if this time you're able to get past the headache stage. If not why not move onto ordinary gum - at least then you'll also have ALL the nicotine out of your body!!! :j Do what you find is best, listen to your body it'll help. However, It's definitely better to only use the gum when you have a craving that way it's best for your headaches too.
Try and keep free from alcohol if possible as it, along with coffee, is a stimulant and also is part of the habitual smoking that we all had. Keep as busy as is possible and do something you love doing (yes, that too!) at the worse times. Stay determined and you will save your health and a HUGE sum of cash!!
Sue x
To all those lurking, keep on reading and getting tips and any time you wish to seek help or to vent, come on in and join us. Lovely to see you, taxi!!!You're never alone in quitting and someone else, possibly hundreds, are at the exact same stage you are.

Hi All.
Hi, SueUU
Still Stopped here. Must be about 6Mths or so.
Glad to see the thread still going - It proved valuable support for me.
Hi rizla - wow, it's been a long, long time since you were with us (on tother thread) and I'm thrilled to see you back today!!!
However, you're underestimating the amount of time you've quit for. I've just gone back a bit and on the 14th November you said it had been 50 days which must make it about 9 months that you've quit for - right??!!! In which caseV e r y ....m a n y ....c o n g r a t u l a ti o n s!! :T:T:T :T
It's so good to hear from you again, don't forget to drop by more often, we always need folk who understand what it's like to give up smoking, and in so doing help others with more incentive that they too can make it!

Day 2
I am trying to think of an alternative to the Friday night bottle of wine and 4-5 cigarettes that has been my Friday night for many years now!! Thought about going swimming instead, but I can't find a swim session locally at that time. There is a general swim session, but that might not be very relaxing. I reckon if I could give up alcohol with the smoking, I could save about £1200 a year, and my liver, so I'm very tempted.
Thank you Sue for the PM, haven't been able to open it yet but I will do it now
Cathy
May be a boring alternative but Cinema, after two Fridays you maybe able to handle Frday wine might even start to smell stale smoke with disgust.
I found very useful The SilkQuit meter this can be downloaded from Sues first post on this thread,it will tell you how much saved when you quit and how many you have not smoked (for me this is a shocking statistic after 11 months) SilkQuit is my second best friend I cannot let it down by starting cigs again.
JD had a good tip about the importance of deep breathing,if you have an urge to smoke, breath out expel as much air from your lungs as possible you will then inhale as if you were a non smoker repeat twice.
I hope you are still free of cigs, nicotine withdrawal last 3 to 5 days after that you are left with the habit.
Stay strong you can win plenty people here have proved that.0 -
Two months, two weeks, six days, 21 hours, 20 minutes and 4 seconds.

Hi guys
Gosh what a lot of good stories to catch up on.
All this hanging about waiting for the phone to ring is driving me nuts - i don't know how people can move house all the time - our house has been on the market for 4 weeks and i'm fed up already:rotfl:
Please let it not stay up for sale for ever - i don't think i could take it - but had some positive viewings so i suppose that's good sign.
Still it hasn't driven me back to the cigs - so thankful for small mercies. I'm at work all weekend so at least then i'll be occupied.
Well done to everyone still quit & those still trying - however long it takes & how many bumps and bruises you get along the way - it will always be worth it.
hugs

Lmao! I hadn't noticed! I just had to look and no, no hairs grown back yet!
Been a tough week... really craved after meals, so have been snacking to get past the craving and my weight has crept up from 9st 4-6lbs to 9st 11lbs... gutted!! But, I think as long as I'm still in a size 12 then it doesn't matter what I weigh? (Need to stay a 12 because I've just bought my wedding dress in a 12!)
What makes me chuckle is when I used to smoke my lunch breaks at work weren't long enough... but now I don't smoke they're too long and I get bored so end up working in my break! Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0 -

I notice and cherish the extra time I have in the mornings. All my adult life I have stayed in bed until the last possible minute that I can possibly make it, without being late for work. This was well timed to the last second to allow for one smoke (outside) with my coffee; a bad hair day would really throw me and I rarely had enough time to sort any lunch.
Routine being as it is, I somehow never nicked the smoke time back and now have spare five minutes in the mornings which is usually enough time to gather some semblance of a lunch together, empty the dishwasher or do some other thankless task. :T
I lost two more pounds this week, after weeks of losing none.Mortgage

you are so right kiwisaver
when i started my quit i had, and still have a long list of reasons to stay stopped, never gave it a thought that smoking costed me time,
i was thinking that having a fag gave me that well deserved break, thinking I was in control how wrong was I . smoking is just slavery plain and simple
i was out having a rare social drink during the week and was sooo pleased not to miss out on the good company by huddling outside having a fag
Nowt to loose by stopping only a win win situation:D
have a super weekend whatever your up to

Hi guys
Was so busy at work over the weekend didn't realise i made the 7 month mark on Sat...lol
Enjoying a couple of days off - but then again i'm sat willing the phone to ring....
Hope you're all feeling good and enjoying no longer being a slave to the evil ones;)
Keep upbeat and positive & above all keep posting - now matter how mundane you think your day may have been - every one you get through without a cig is a good one, and small things you do to help you stay off them can prove a big inspiration for others.
hugs
