    i was believing it was to do with nicotine being a stimulant and so feeling tired was part of the withdrawal

    heres a bit i found online from quitsmokingsuport and common symptoms of withdrawal

    Nicotine is a stimulant. . Get extra sleep and more exercise; take naps; don’t push yourself. If you feel tired when you first wake up, do some moderate exercises and take a cool shower. Drink 6-8 glasses of water per day to speed the healing process


    sounds to me you a re doing Great , your body will be getting rid of all the acumilated muck too and readjusting to its new found freedom

    keep up the good work rainbowdreamer you should feel real proud of yourself:j:j

    be preapred for the stressful events to come , take gum something to twiddle with etc and dont forget to reward yourself too for each day you stay quit , wether it be a bubbly bath a magazine or 5 mins peace in the garden away from family...whatever rocks your boat

    another thought , if you have stresful event looming you may not be as well rested as you normally are hence the tiredness and fatigue

    Hello fellow quitters old and new, plus special hellos to anyone that 'knows' me from t'other thread. I have not had a chance to read much of the thread yet but will try and catch up.

    Everyday you don't smoke a fag is a day closer to the next big milestone and a palpable sense of empowerment and achievement that brings. You've all done so amazingly well to come this far, even if it's only a day, a week, a month, a year or many years.

    I quit after being a smoker for the best part of 30 years, with the help of patches and the encouragement of Sue-UU and the many familiar faces that have already posted on this thread. I doubt very much I would have made it this far on my own, without the support and guidance of so many great folks on MSE. I am thankful to each and everyone of them.

    These days, by way of explanation for my diet etc I quite often find myself telling people how I used to be a smoker until just over a year ago and they're either totally shocked to find I was a smoker, amazed I gave up, or forgotten that I ever was a smoker.

    To most however,especially those that have never smoked it is of no consequence whatsoever - such is life. That's why it's nice to come back to threads such as this every so often to remind yourself where you came from and how easy it would be to go back; it really does take one to know one and only another smoker /(ex-smoker) will ever understand what a real achievement it is to give up.

    I do still have those little butterflies in the stomach moments where I feel the need to stop and have a fag, but they rarely last more than a fleeting moment. I still hope I will never smoke again, but I do find that hard to comprehend and I couldn't say that with my hand on heart.

    The only downside is I am still battling with the excess weight gain; I did manage to lose six or seven pounds in the earlier part of this year, with my sights set on losing another six. However I may be kidding myself with that, as despite trying I have stayed the same for many weeks and presently just pleased if I don't put back on what I lost. :rotfl:

    Hi guys

    It's all go here - or will be over the weekend as have got someone coming to view the house on Mon!!!
    All i need is to remove the Eau D Dog and copious amounts of hair from said smelly ones and make the place a bit sparkly;)

    At least i don't have to be embarrassed about yellow walls n paintwork and that revolting smell of stale tobacco putting them off.

    Finger, toes and all other flexible body parts well and truly crossed that this will either be first of many potential buyers or even better that they love it and snap it up!:D

    Have even borrowed the kick butt pressure washer from work to blast the patio n outside with ( yeh i know it's gonna bucket down anyways..lol)

    Glad to see a few more people adding to our little band - i love to read stories from those that are further on their journey than i am - really does help to keep me motivated.

    Hope you all have a wonderful smoke free weekend and keep on quitting - it's the best decision you'll ever make to free yourself from the fags.

    good luck on the house viewings smileytiger. it amazes me that folk viewing houses would accept/reject a house on the choice of wallpaper and cosmetics when its size , location thats important

    sounds like you are making it "light and airy" as they say

    Aww thank you and well done yourself for staying back on the non-smoking wagon. I don't really feel that great sense of achievement anymore, it just seems like normal but I guess that's a good thing. :D

    Hi, can I join your diary? Been giving up smoking for over 20 years now, (I'm 43) and today I intend to succeed. I have smoked at worst about 15 a day, at best 0-3 a day, and the past few years I have had about 5-6. The cigarettes I will miss the most? Definitely with the bottle of wine on a Friday/Saturday night. Also the ones I have when I am stressed or upset (work is stressing me out at the moment big time!) Guess I will just have to give up alcohol and stressing too!

    I had my last one at 8 o'clock this morning and then when straight to the chemist for some nicotine gum. Just aint going to be able to do it without some help. Trouble with the gum is I find it gives me a thumping headache and makes me feel a bit sick. I only had about a third of a piece as I have experienced this before. Does anyone else find this? It is working though, I have no cravings at the moment yay!! Am just chewing on a very tiny bit at the moment. Is it better to have gum when you really really want a cigarette or to have some at regular intervals to pre-empt the cravings as it were?

    Will appreciate any help and support, as I'm sure to need a rant from time to time, and I so much want to succeed before it's too late.

    the best desicion you'll ever make to free yourself once and for all from old nic
    i had been smoking for nearly 30 years:eek: before being at the right place for me, to stop once and for all

    its good you have recognised triggers and areas that you used to smoke , if any situations can be avoided or pre-empted early into your smoke free journey ..it all helps

    if you read Sues bit on the first post on how your body reacts when stopping it will help you to understand the changes that are happening to you..but getting rid of all that mucky accumilations in your body is a good thing

    as for the gum, when i quit the first time round i used it initially and it did help , ..i never used many pieces my main sessions were in the car going to work so i would have one then, rather than keep chewing it the stuff i had once the "flavour" was released i held the gum in between top gum and lip bit at the side of mouth, this released nicotine, but i got fed up with it and used some sugar free gum or sucked a lolly pop

    i would advocate drrinking water, water and more water its been such a help this time round, helps get rid of all them toxins, rehydrates you and really does help with cravings, siping cold water or brushing teeth ( though i couldnt do latter whilst driving ;) but do whatever works for you

    remember too to reward yourself , it wont be long before you barely give them a fleeting thought

    and please do rant on here and let us know how you are getting on. we all on here are at various stages of our journey but all share the same goal to be free from fags and stay free from them

    Thanks JD! Well done to you for stopping! The support is really appreciated. I am very determined this is my last chance at giving up! Easier today as it is my day off work. Tomorrow will test me as I will be working in the afternoon. ALWAYS have one before work and one as soon as I've finished.Will see how it goes i guess.....:(

    Day 2

    I have done over 24 hours now so I am carbon monoxide free :D but not nicotine free owing to the gum :( I plan to use a piece a day and chew it in very small bits so as not to feel ill or headachy. Did well last night as I went out for a big meal, and had half a bottle of wine and didn't crack. Strangely I had a craving for some gum, but not a smoke. I have to go to work in a bit, so I am feeling a bit fragile, as that's when I need to smoke most. If I am annoyed, it will be a tough evening ahead!

    I am trying to think of an alternative to the Friday night bottle of wine and 4-5 cigarettes that has been my Friday night for many years now!! Thought about going swimming instead, but I can't find a swim session locally at that time. There is a general swim session, but that might not be very relaxing. I reckon if I could give up alcohol with the smoking, I could save about £1200 a year, and my liver, so I'm very tempted.

    Thank you Sue for the PM, haven't been able to open it yet but I will do it now :)
