I've been MIA for a couple of weeks and come back to a shiny new diary:j.
I wish everyone starting out on their quit journey the very best of luck. I gave up using Champix - I took them for a week, stopped smoking on day 8, continued taking them for another 10 - 14 days, and sort of forgot after that, but the die was cast by then, I was a non-smoker. I cannot thank you Sue, and others who have contributed to the stop smoking support threads - I think they were what made this quit a complete success for me. Thank you all so much!
My updated Silkquit stats:
19720 cigarettes not smoked, saving €8,528.95.
Life saved: 9 weeks, 5 days, 11 hours, 20 minutes.
C&P from last thread:
Hiya splishsplash!!!! I was starting to wonder about you, so it really is wonderful to see you back and here - and LOOK how long you've quit for now!!!!! :j:j I really was shocked to see it's that long!! You've done absolutely brilliantly!!!!
What sensational statistics and to think you've NOT smoked 19720 cigarettes is almost unbelievable! Please keep on updating us as posts like yours are so terribly motivating to others, you are too!
Thanks so very much, splishsplash!

Went to the local walk in centre and it seems I have had an allergic reaction. The doctor things the Zyban is the cause so have been advised not to take it anymore.
So I am not going it alone cold turkey. Hoping it won't suddenly become extremely difficult, but may just pretend to myself its still working lol.
Hi RainbowDreamer, so sorry to hear you're allergic to zyban, but you've still a HUGE chance of quitting for good. I'm so pleased you sought help straight away and I'm sure the Dr's quite right in his/her thoughts.
You have well over 6 days behind you....and those words..behind you...are such a blessing as I know you wondered if you'd ever get there! One way or the other though, you have made a great start to your journey through sheer determination to get there one way or another!!!! :T
I know you put "lol" at the end, but truth is, it's amazing what you can do by bring your mind into play here. It's a fact that the zyban will still be working anyway! Remember that "..just pretending to yourself its still working" is true, and keep up the pretence and carry on, just as I did all that time ago!
Keep as busy as possible and let your mind be taken away on anything that you know helps you..memories or dreams of the future, absolutely anything like that. Get on out for some exercise and walk briskly, it's marvellous for us all and has a real feel good factor. Keep posting on the thread - even if there's no one here it'll still do you good - truth!
You CAN do this, RainbowDreamer! :grinheart

Thank you Sue. So far I have not had a single craving. And have missed one day of the zyban so far. I am still eating more than usual, but trying to replace that with more water instead.
I have no doubt in my mind now that I will never smoke again. I am a non-smoker now in my mind, so why would I even consider a puff?
Also for anyone who has an android mobile phone, on google play there is a free app called QuitNow. It has stats etc, but the main thing that has helped me is a little chatroom on there that you can go on anytime of the day and can talk to many other people all over the word who have quit or are quitting.
If I go on there when I am struggling I have at least 4 people at one time motivating me and helping me stay quit. So I really do recommend it.0 -

You really do sound so positive, RainbowDreamer - not so much a dreamer any longer.
I've added your recommendation of this app to the 1st page (below Recommended Books), as I think it could be so very helpful to many others too, including those who quit quietly without our knowledge - Hi to all lurkers and please take note of RainbowDreamer's app recommendation.
Very many thanks for that, RD, I'm delighted you have that help whenever you need it - which you may not do!
Keep happy - stay quit!!!

Hi all... I'm looking for advice please, from anyone who might have similar experience(s)?
Nearly seven months ago I stopped smoking - I used the Allen Carr book, with no replacement products, etc. and I'm also not on any other medication (apart from hayfever meds for the last couple of weeks). However, I have found that my sex drive has disappeared - the opposite to what I might've expected! I'm also twice as tickly as I was before, I don't know whether these are related.
Has anyone else had this? Does anyone have any advice? You were only killing time and it'll kill you right back0 -
Hello there, girl_withno_name!! I'm so pleased to see you here too, especially being 7 months free from smoking!!!
Many congratulations to you!! :T:T:T You've obviously done really well with Alan Carr's book, wonderful!!
To be honest, I've never heard of anyone having your problem (or anyone who's admitted it), but I'm pleased you've asked rather than just not bothered.
Some people get a new lease of life after quitting and are full of zest, some find the opposite, have you been affected by tiredness at all? If so, then get an appointment with your GP for tests of the thyroid gland; it affected me and I've since had an underactive thyroid or hypothyroidism as it's more often called these days. It's no great problem though as I have pills to help with it and need my hormone levels checked twice a year.
Another reason might be due to women of 'a certain age' and starting to go into the change of life (pre menopausal). That problem can affect us ladies from 45 onwards though it's more common in the late 50s of 60s, so if either of these things fit you then check with your GP. A early menopause came for me at 46 and slowed things down sexually, but it didn't last long!
Could either of these perhaps be the problem? If you don't think so then maybe it's the hayfever pills. I also take those, but have never been affected, but we're all individuals. Do get yourself checked out, gwnn, and don't allow it to go on unchecked, it's never worth it.
Please let us know how you go. Thanks a lot and very well done!

Hi Sue,
Thanks for the advice... I don't think it's menopause (I'm 25!) It also seems unlikely that it'd be the hayfever tablets (as I've taken them every summer for about 10 years), but this and thyroid issues sound like they're at least worth asking the GP about. I am tired, but this could easily be down to working full time (+) as well as studying during evenings and weekends.
Thanks againYou were only killing time and it'll kill you right back0 -

Aha! You could have hit the old nail on the head with that part, gwnn, tiredness in general plus study will have an effect on it anyway; still worth having it all checked though and pleased you're going to. If his/her advice doesn't help, go back!
You're welcome any time.
