Neighbour's Problem Flag
Comments

This year we have the Olympics and the queens jubilee. More people should display the flag and celebrate Britain.
This may be your opinion, my opinion is that is rubbish!
What is there to celebrate? As much as the British love to bury their heads in the sand, the fact is we are in an economical crisis. The solution? Spend millions celebrating a woman who we cannot afford to have there in the first place. There is no valid excuse for this no matter how hard people may try to come up with one.
Its simple, we have no money yet the queen has a big party costing the taxpayer millions. Its actually f'ing pathetic that anyone can even begin to justify this.
The attitude of 'oh well lets get on with it and join in' is odd to say the least.0 -
Maybe you should go back and read the OP , he isnt complaining that the neighbour is flying a flag , he is complaining that the flag is effectively flying his garden. However I suspect you only post to get a reaction
Thankyou for reading my post properly. You are totally right, it is not the actual flag that I am complaining about, and it never has been. It is the fact that it has been positioned immediately next to our boundary, so that it flies over our garden (and it is HUGE) and affects us and the birds in our garden. If it was in the middle of his garden so that it didn't fly over our garden, I wouldn't be saying a word.
But, as you rightly say, some people deliberately misread a post just to be controversial and get a reaction. Sad really.0 -
Just a thought:
You say your neighbour also feeds the birds, so clearly he has a soft side to him; how about appealing to his better nature and say even though you think his flag is amazing, could he shift it a bit because it is scaring the birds away.
You never know, being a bird lover may sway him!

Yep of course you can. Just as you can celebrate Christmas without putting up tacky decorations, bonfire night without setting off fireworks, Easter without buying chocolate eggs etc.
We're two weeks away from the Jubillee, if the flag was still there in a month and going into his garden then they should speak to the neighbour.
But really it just seems absolutely pathetic to complain about something like this now! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I have no time for the royal family and what it stands for - but I respect others views and that's their choice.
I think what will gall many people is the money that will be spent on the jubilee celebrations while the country is on its knees. We are not all 'in it together'.
The Crown Estate is one of the largest property owners in the United Kingdom with a portfolio worth £7.0 billion, with urban properties valued at £5.179 billion, and rural holdings valued at £1.049 billion; and an annual profit of £230.9 million, as at 31 March 2011 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_Estate
In late 2000, a £35.3 million reserve was established. The reserve was created from surpluses in the 1991-2000 Civil List caused by low inflation and the efforts of the Queen and her staff to make the Royal Household more efficient. For the period of 2001 to 2010, the Civil List continued to be fixed at £7,900,000 annually, the same amount since 1991.
That's a bargain if you ask me. We pay them just under £8m, in return they give us back over £230m?<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
I like the Royals. They fascinate me. I'm just a real snob about flags although the St George Cross bothers me more than the Union Flag. I can't help feeling they've been hi-jacked by the far right and thuggish football fans. That's the association for me, I'm afraid

When Scotland does finally leave the UK I wonder what will happen to the Scottish Crown lands? Will they take them off the Royal Family or will they buy them off them? Or will they keep the queen and let her keep their lands.
Really they should keep the Royal Family, as after all the current lot comes from the Scottish/German lineThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
More to the point... is it the right way up?

The Crown Estate is recommended to be devolved by a cross section of MPs - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-17430092 , but how this would work in principle hasn't been made clear. What has been made clear is that Alex Salmond has already earmarked and spent the money for which there are no guarantees as yet that [STRIKE]he[/STRIKE] the Scottish people would be entitled to. It seems he is from the Gordon Brown school of Fiscal Studies - keep spending other peoples money until it runs out, the continue spending on borrowed money until that runs out, then leave someone else to mop up the mess!<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
