Hi all, I was pleased as punch on Wednesday evening to get an e-mail from GM telling me that I had sold a book, my first with them. I took it to the post office on Friday and after waiting in the qeue for an hour I got to the counter. This was an ordinary size paperback weighing 190 grammes and it fit nicely through letter size thing. I was amazed when the person at the counter wanted to charge me the packet rate of £1.90 and got quite nasty when I asked why. The person insisted that it did not fit thru the letter sizer but I knew that it did as I had treid it upon entering the post office. As time was short I ended up paying £1.90!! I was not at all pleased as on Tuesday I sent a large paperback weighing 303 grammes for 83p from another post office. I won't be going to that one again!!!

It is rare for a standard paperback to go easily through the letter slot if it is well packed. Apart from a few sci fi books (the old fashioned US pulp type ones) I can't recall the last time any of my post offices allowed a novel to go as a letter.

Where my stuff is borderline I avoid my local PO as she is very strict and will refuse anything that doesn't fall through without any help at all, so even if my return label is the only thing that catches the slot it is still refused.

This new system is odd though, a very heavy, but thin hardbook book costs less than a light (cheap paper) basic novel this week and a paperback book cost me less to send to Germany than it would to send within the UK.

Do you mean for it to deposit into your account? If so it can take upto 10 days from when you requested it or it was deposited.

Ive sold 3 things on Amazon marketplace (just listing things i want to get rid of) in about a month and i only have 1 feedback. The first item i sold no feedback was left and then the item i shipped off on thursday has no feedback on it (it may not have arrived yet) and i was just wondering you know the packaging slip you put in with your item do you ever put anything on there about feedback like amazon says to? I just put: I hope you are happy with your purchase if there are any problems dont hesitate to contact me. But i would like feedback to know if im am doing anything wrong and also to know when the item gets there so should i start writing this on the packaging slip aswell.

    Thanks

    Hi AVFC4LIFE

Personally I don't ask for feedback, the accepted Amazon ratio is 25-30%. It is better than on Play.com where I have sold about 125 items now and still only have 3 feedback

The way I see it is that 1 feedback which is a 4 or 5 at 100% is better than 2 if the 2nd one might be a negative.

I have sold 267 books (etc) and just got my 100th feedback, its frustrating but there is no incentive for amazon buyers to leave feedback.

    Greetings from Amazon.co.uk.

A potential buyer has sent you the following message about an item you have for sale on Amazon.co.uk, or about your store at Amazon.co.uk. Please respond to the individual directly by replying to this e-mail. For your reference, the buyer's e-mail address is ********@yahoo.com.

'I'm interested in purchasing [title] by [author]. Please can you contact me via email: ******@yahoo. com or call me on 0208 *** **** (Name). Maybe you have other books about properties. Many Thanks [Name]'

Is this someone wanting an 'off-amazon' deal, or something weirder or dodgier?

Can't see why they didn't just buy the book instead of emailling me about it.

  • Hi Fay

Probably no dodgier than hoping for a discount by buying off Amazon or just hoping to negotiate on price. For your own security (financial) I would suggest you only do deals through Amazon.
