Hi all, I was pleased as punch on Wednesday evening to get an e-mail from GM telling me that I had sold a book, my first with them. I took it to the post office on Friday and after waiting in the qeue for an hour I got to the counter. This was an ordinary size paperback weighing 190 grammes and it fit nicely through letter size thing. I was amazed when the person at the counter wanted to charge me the packet rate of £1.90 and got quite nasty when I asked why. The person insisted that it did not fit thru the letter sizer but I knew that it did as I had treid it upon entering the post office. As time was short I ended up paying £1.90!! I was not at all pleased as on Tuesday I sent a large paperback weighing 303 grammes for 83p from another post office. I won't be going to that one again!!!

That's why I do all my postage online - I am never as strict as the PO ladies, you might want to consider that too, a good investment by the sounds of it.
Give it a go and see if you get on with it:

You only need a printer, paper and tape, no labels necessary.

    Hi Guys
It seems like ages since I have posted on here. Just wanted to share good sales as others have posted - 17 items in 9 days with 3 coming today (must be the rain!!)
My initial £300 a month has now reduced down to a steady £100 a month but I'm happy with that as I haven't listed any new books for yonks and at present don't have time to.
Hope everyone else is having good sales

My OH had the cheek to moan when he opened a kitchen cabinet and was hit in the eye with a book that I had balanced on the tea cups as I had a friend call round unexpectedly and had books everywhere that I had to tidy up.

    What a cheek! ;)

I'm lucky, in that my husband is very supportive and hasn't moaned once that I have claimed the study as my own and taken over most of the garage and the guest room with my books, bless him! :A

    Same here :j

It's a bit like an alcoholics anonymous club, instead of hiding bottles we hide books.

Nice to know that although I may be 'odd' I am not alone in my 'oddness'.

Hi everyone, I posted a while back regarding how I had mistakenly sent the wrong book out to a buyer and how best to deal with it. Buyer had emailed me to say I had sent wrong book and that he was returning it and could I send correct one. In good faith I immediately sent out the correct book as it was my error after all, and also refunded some money to cover his return postage.

However, I still have not received the original book back. I have emailed him twice and not received any reply. Any advice on how best to deal with this? Thanks very much!

PS It is at least 3 weeks now since I sent the corrrect book out

    Hi cat,

I could be wrong and apologies if I am but it seems to me that you might not see that book again! Unfortunately most buyers cannot be trusted and I only refund on return of books, otherwise I know I wouldn't get them back.

The only thing you could do is leave them feedback to say that they never returned the book, it might guilt them into returning it, if they read it, altho it won't reduce their overall feedback. However, if you do that they might retalliate and leave you a negative.

Hopefully someone else will have a better idea, sorry :o

To those of you who have sheds, are they good for housing books? Is it the same as leaving them in the garage or do they get really damp and horrible if left for too long?

    Thanks

Thanks Kat, unfortunately I think you may be right. Funny how they accessed their email quick enough when I sent the wrong book, yet I haven't received a reply to my mails.

    Hi Kat,

All my books are in our shed. I have them in cardboard wine boxes lined with bin liners and then scrunched over at the top. They seem to stay very dry and even the pensioners still seem fine when they sell.

I am trying to slightly reduce my stock as hubby is getting a bit frosty with the number of boxes I have, so I am resisting going into town - I can't walk past some of the charity shops with out going in now. Having said that I don't visit the British Heart Foundation now and a couple of others as their prices are just too much.

Have had a pretty good month so far in May - much better than March & April, so all being well I will have got rid of another box in a couple of weeks

Mine is not tecnically a shed as it is a purpose built buiding with lined walls and proper glazed windows, rather more like a garage than a plain shed, it also has power down there so I can run a fan heater if I am working down for ages in the cold.

There doesn't appear to be any damp at all, but I still do as number3 says and wrap in plastic before putting books into boxes. I've just bought some new shelving units from B and Q that are 5 shelves tall (about 5ft 5 in total) and are very very sturdy and slot my boxes into the shelves.

    Hi

I have just emailed a buyer to say their cd was posted today and they have replied asking do I have any other similar cd's. I do have some listed, and I was going to e mail them back and list them. But how do I explain to them how to find all the listings for me? (I have 6 pages now and I am thinking they might be tempted with a bit more if they have a good look!).

    Thanks for any help

    Donna
