Does anyone find ex-library books reasonably profitable to sell on Amazon? My local library is always selling stuff off but I never bother going to check what they've got:o

I love it when my library does book sales - 10p paperbacks and 30p hardbacks. Our local charity shops are v expensive - £1.50 paperbacks and £2-£3 hardbacks lately so for me the library is a good source. I've had some excellent buys and quite a few £10+ sales from there.

I always describe it fully in the listings including all the 'faults' - not that buyers always read the listings!! I'd recommend decent condition withdrawn library books

I have a somewhat silly question. I know it has been mentioned before but I can't find the post ( at search).

Anyway, here goes... Do you normally list your books on either Amazon, Play or GM or do you list each book on all three and delete listings as you sell? I think that would potentially increase the sales but I am not sure it is the right thing to do. Are the risks of selling the same book twice (or even 3 times  ) very high?

    I would appreciate any advice.
    Thanks.:)

    Hi Maxine

I list on all three and have occasionally messed up. On Greenmet I just email and say 'oops sorry'. But on Play and Amazon I do my utmost to source from elsewhere. I don't usually lose out (sometimes make a profit) 'cos I tend to price high anyway.

My problems have not come from selling at the same time but from forgetting to delete.

Not a silly question at all. GreenMetropolis.com is good for selling books that maybe aren't listable on Amazon. You can also fairly easily create listings if a book isn't on the GM database which is a big advantage for those not ProMerchant on Amazon. For bigger/heavier books its possible to add a postage charge - a list comes up for eligible books when listing. If its not there, you can email GM and ask them to add it in fact any probs I've found them to be very nice and helpful and they email a response IN PERSON quickly :D Theres also a wishlist of books people are looking for but its full of duplicates so a bit of a mission to go through.

You will only get £3 for a book so no good for expensive ones, also copies come up for sale in the order they are listed and only 2 are ever on display at any time. That said I've sold about 10 and some of those had been listed on Amazon for months. Just got to remember to delist if you sell and you have them on more than one site.

Also GM put books on Amazon which probably helps sales, they are a much smaller site so some people find sales slow there but its free to list and easy. I think it might be a good place to sell popular novels that have a lot of lisitngs on Amazon - not sure. Also I know we discussed ages ago that GM don't advertise but I did notice they had a small ad in Saturday's Guardian which I don't normally read so not sure if thats a regular thing.

    Good luck with the selling

    Hi

Does anyone know what charity shops do with their books after a period of time?

Do they just keep them for as long as it takes to sell them, or does there come a point when they will get rid of them to make way for 'new' stock?

Bought some CDs to sell - one has case with broken hinges which I'd like to replace before listing. Thought I might try and swop it for one of my other CD covers. Not tried that before so anyone know if its fairly easy to do or have any hints/tips?

I think the tricky bit will be getting the bottom bit off that the CD sits in to take the back cover out.

I'm listening to it now to make sure it doesn't skip and its a fairly boring trance CD but worth £10 so who am I to argue - the things I do for a sale :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Hello all,

I'm after a bit of advice about what to do about a buyer on Amazon. I sold one of these but the Amazon description is slightly wrong. It's part of a 2CD set, and they have listed the tracks that are on both CDs, although the title definitely says "CD1" only. I put in my description the correct tracklisting (1st 4 tracks), and that it was CD1 of 2, to try and avoid confusion.

Anyway, I sold it nearly a month ago and I sent it out the next day. I've just looked at my feedback and see that the buyer has left me a 1/5 rating saying that I sent the wrong CD out - they wanted the 2nd part of the set. They didn't contact me directly (eg email) so I've only just seen it a few days after it was left and the feedback has a mobile number asking me to ring them as they're away from computer for a while.

Any advice about what to say? I'm not really very happy about the thought of having to speak to an aggy buyer over the phone, so I guess I'll end up offering them a refund on return. But I'm really not happy about it because it wasn't my fault. :(

    TIA :o
