guys can you give me some help with my wording, i had a buyer leave me a 2/5 last week, " book was dirty, and not as described" I had no contact from her up to then, so emailed and apologised offering full refund. Received no reply so emailed again after a few days saying she had a seven day window where she could get a refund and if i had no reply i would respond to the feedback. She contacted me today and said the book was 'soiled' and she no longer had the package to return and had binned  the book.
I gave her a bit of a lectureabout contacting the seller in future, but I would like to put in the feedback response that it was as described and how she has been awkward about resolving it but cant think of a way without sounding like im making excuses !
TIA

I sold an item late last night which was posted first thing this morning. I checked my emails when i got home and had 2 emails from the buyer:
"I am afraid I have to cancel this order. I accidentally ordered it both from you and from another seller."
"I have sent you a cancellation via the Amazon website but should be grateful if you could confirm the cancellation and that you will process a refund."
The first one was sent an hour after the purchase was made (I was in bed by then) The second one was sent after a further 3 hours (insomniac anyone?) Had he emailed immediately after making the duplicate purchase (if he is telling the truth) then I would have been able to cancel and refund.
I started to reply saying that unfortunately it had already been posted and maybe he could ask the other seller if he could cancel his order with them if it had not been posted yet. I was then going to say I would accept a return and refund but this would not include the postage or his return postage costs but I stopped because I am not sure what amazon require me to do in these circumstances.
I think if you change your mind when you purchase from Amazon themselves you have to pay return postage and I don't think you get p&p back if you have had to pay it (I know p&p is free on most orders over £15 from them)
The actual postage cost was £2.38 by 1st class Recorded, this is what the buyer was charged and what I received:
Item(s) Ordered Price
Item(s) Subtotal: £28.95
Total postal charge to Buyer: £4.50
Amazon.co.uk Marketplace fees: -4.11
Applicable VAT amount: -£0.62
Amount Due Seller: £28.72
If he does want to return what do I have to refund? and what should I say to him? To be honest I am a bit annoyed that he did not ask me if he could cancel he just told me that he was cancelling and that he had sent me a cancellation!?
Boston_UK is right in her answer to you, but, I had exactly the same thing happen to me a while ago and had already posted the book. It wasn't an expensive book but was quite heavy to post - a Delia Collection Cookery book.
The buyer said they had accidently purchased 2 copies, I replied that I had already posted mine could they try and cancel the other copy. They replied that they had also sent their copy off.
I phoned Customer Services as the buyer blamed the Amazon System saying that they thought my order (the 1st) had not gone through so that was why they bought the other. Anyway, CS confirmed that they had bought 2 copies and the guy I spoke to said that they shouldn't have been so impatient (implied they were TSFA) and said that when they returned the book I didn't have to refund the postage - I queried this but he was quite adament - so I asked him to put it on my record so that if I got a bad feedback it would be immediately removed on request - this he did.
However, to cut a long story short (oops already long) my buyer later emailed to say she was going to keep both copies and give one away as a present.
So, Pinkgem, it might be worth a call to CS to ask advice and if they say that you don't have to refund postage get them to record it - for later feedback removal.
Having said all that, I think that the DSR say you need to refund postage.
For the buyer to avoid return postage costs they could refuse the package and it will be returned to you.

here's a couple of examples of some relatively recent feedback and responses I left to it -
3 out of 5: "Quick delivery but item cover not same as one depicted. Book is in much worse condition than what I gathered from the description, I'm afraid to read it incase it falls apart."
Date: 2007/2/24 Rated by Buyer: *******
Seller Response: "Sorry you were dissappointed with this, the book was described as Acceptable and was cheaper than any other copies available at the time. Also it is quite common for publishers to change the cover design on reprints of a popular book. Please contact us if you aren't happy then we can address the issue before you leave feedback." Date: 2007/2/24
3 out of 5: "Received on time, but condition was very poor, almost unsuitable to be sold"
Date: 2007/2/16 Rated by Buyer:
Seller Response: "this book was listed as ACCEPTABLE with all faults listed at 50% of the price of other used copies! We would be happy to refund it if returned, but have had no contact from the buyer. Please contact us if you are unhappy in anyway BEFORE leaving feedback." Date: 2007/2/16
The latter feedback was actually received from a seller on amazon! All be a small time seller, but I found it unbelievable that they left that feedback and had not contacted me, even with me stating to contact in if any problems on 2 previous emails and the packing slip!
Hope that's of some help, or do I sound like I'm making excuses?Do You Twitter?
