That's amazingingly cautious! Considering some hobby sellers actualy sell books as new, and list faults making a mockery of it being new!

it is a subjective grading system and I have graded stuff as good only to recieve feedback and comments expecting it to be pristine. Luckily not very often and I do now err on the side of caution.

    Simply put -

Like New, should really only be used if the book is perfect in every way and unread, indistinguishable from a new copy.

Very Good - very light signs of reading, faint creasing of spine.

Good - bit of a catch all here, as long as the book isn't grubby stained, annotated heavily creased, bent or worn it should fit in the good category

Acceptable - ex-library books (very debatable to list other than as acceptable), books with annotations, stains, heavily tanned, heavily creased spine or cover, or pages. Loose pages permitted if mentioned, anything that should have a dust jacket that doesn't or if DJ is badly damaged.

not an exhaustive list but hope it helps, but it's only a guide and only my opinion based on amazon guidelines.

further to this , i have to disagree re ex library books ;) ,

I judge these individually and if its perfect in every other way then its a good-very good, and i point out usual stamps etc. BUT i only do this on the rare ones (where its me and the american sellers)

as long as you make sure ALL faults are listed then dont fret !

I did state (very debatable to list other than as acceptable) and it seems that at least you are agreing it is debatable!!;)

I would certainly hesitate to list any ex-library book as better than good, though would tend to agree that most could qualify as good in my view, but many customers may well feel different. Best not to fret too much about the buyers who just choose the cheapest and don't even look at the condition, as there as many of these that will just select on condition without examining comments!

I do send out a print out of the comments and condition, and when a book is acceptable I use a highlighter on the condition and the faults, doesn't stop all [STRIKE]muppets[/STRIKE] customers from making an !!! of themselves though and leaving poor feedback as they hadn't read the comments.

OMG just sold my first book! do I download the packing slip? it wont seem to let me, in a panic please help

Hi Teedy congrats on the sale - exciting eh:j It wasn't '50 Ways to Train a Cat' you sold was it ;)

You can also print off the second page of the SDN email as it has the packing slip details and the address which you can just cut out neatly and put the slip in with the book and tape the address to the packet.

Here's to loads more sales all round

well came across this one from a UK seller with over 1200 feedback 99% positive
Description of the book "Used - as new" Comments: Ex-Library, front end page removed, usual stamps and stickers.

Seems we all have different standards!!

I posted something on here a few days ago where I saw a book listed as very good, which then went on to mention highlighting to most pages, margin notes and a missing DJ! For me that would be only acceptable, and then i bet someone would still moan about it.

My law book buyer still hasn't got back to me, but customer services now say she bought the Selwyn book on the same day from a different seller, which just confuses matters even more!

whats happened to my listing

i had some books listed (same title).. i sold 2 and now the listing has disappeared,,,

so i put down the multiples i had for sale... so the listing still should be there...

i done 2 listings with with muliples on each one....

is it because i done 2 listings.... if so.... do amazon... remove listings.. without telling you ...?

i think i need to get of ebay mode.....

  • If you wrote 2 identical listings then they can be removed because you are taking up more space for the same book, either someone reported it or it was spotted somehow. You can relist them as one listing with as many copies as you have. if they are in different condition then it's OK to have more than one listing
