Hi all, picked up some books this weekend, most of them are real duds  so will be going back to the charity shops. One of them might be some good though, the only other copy listed is for £154 from an American seller, obviously I'm not expecting it to go for anywhere near that but what would be a reasonable price to put in on for, without underselling?

    Ta very much:D

Really difficult to say without knowing what it is etc. You could do a search on some book sites such as Abe or Bookprice to see if there are other copies elsewhere. Also try googling it including the ISBN and see what you find....
  • Hi there. Apprentice Tycoon suggested I drop by. I've been selling off my own DVDs and books recently, and did landslide business 18 months ago when I was moving and had to clear out. I've only ever had to make one refund to an overseas dvd buyer who said the dvd arrived damaged. Don't know if that was true but I gave him a full refund anyway. Still on 100% feedback, I think seeing all the other 5's encourages puts pressure on new customers to do the same.

Saw a mention that asking for feedback isn't a good idea. Could someone elaborate? I always ask for confirmation that item has arrived (half the time I get a reply) and then include a request for feedback when I say thanks.

Also, I'd like to get into trading on a (very) small scale. Where do I find cheap books or new DVDs with a bulk discount?
If you think reality makes sense, you're just not paying attention!

Those of you who are 'hobby sellers' and buy books with a view to selling them on, how many times do you get it wrong? I seem to be picking the wrong books to sell, often finding some of them are only on for a penny! As I've often been paying up to £3 for a book sometimes I'm losing out.

Any tips on avoiding this trap?

PS I'm only selling to make a bit of extra cash

well, if you register with hmrc as self employed, which you should do if buying with the intention of selling for profit, you could use these 'wrong' purchases to make a loss to offset against other tax you are paying whilst learning a bit more about what does sell!

    Hi Rare Stuff

Could you explain a bit more about this? As I have only got a few books listed (and those aren't selling!) and I'm not buying in bulk I didn't think this was necessary? Don't know a lot about it though. Help!

Hi there TDD (found on Old Style and dragged over here :D ) the assumption about asking for feedback is, like on ebay you can risk looking as if you are a) desperate or b) nagging or c) begging - and might put the buyers backs up.

No sure about buying with the benefit of a bulk discount myself, I buy at auctions, boot sales and charity shops

hi peeps ,feeling a bit daft right now as I had a visit from the book fairy today and chased her away. The buyer was from Malaysia and wanted to pay by paypal, as I only wanted to sell in UK (until I find my feet at least)and dont have a paypal account I declined the sale
