In which case the term "lunatic" was a fairly accurate and apt description doncha think?

No. "Lunatic" for those with mental health problems, is not an acceptable term in a civilised society.

Even the 1911 census that are now available online, have that section blanked out. An acceptable term in 1911, but not in 2012.

Yeah I agree the OP sounds nice. However I'm a little worried that a letting agency needs to come and ask for advice here.

I get what you are saying, perhaps it is more of a post from an individual who is a bit exhausted with it, rather than as an official rep of the letting agency. Behind the agency, are real people sort of thing. We are here as support and for them to hear common sense input, amongst the landscape of bizarreness.

What does happen next with a section 21?

I think that will be the approach in future - ask her to give us a range of days which are suitable and then fit someone in around that.

Perhaps it might have been better if you had done this in the first place,
if you were reluctant to give her the phone numbers of the workmen so they could arrange a mutually convenient time?

Honestly I don't know how she's ever got through life. She will just have to realise that people are not at her beck and call and sometimes she has to compromise in order to get the outcome she wants.

"compromise" yes, that's the key. No point in trying to be the one who wants to control the situation and then getting worked up when the affected parties can't fit into your plan.

A few years ago I rented a property and was shocked at the views of these trades persons (not really workmen) on the letting agent and landlord. They even worked together when they gave quotes if it was a landlord they didn't like.

  • Miss MoneyPenny (what a brilliant name for this forum) they have been very accommodating if what the OP has written is to be believed. I believe it.

.... calling her a lunatic is not the crime of the century..... having a laugh at someone not reading doesn't really matter.
Really? So as long as the subject of the "verbals" doesn't read it /is not aware of it we can all use any adjective we like, however offensive?

Let's also remember that the thread contains just one side of this story.

I don't know, I wouldn't care if someone made a flippant remark and called me a lunatic on a forum I didn't read, with no one knowing it was about me. I thought B&T was just peeing about and didn't get upset.

Lunatic is such an old antiquated word and out of common usage to the point that it gets used in a non-serious way. Now if the word 'retard' had been used, that has been in usage in more recent times and still has fresh connotations.

I have heard people call others lunatic in an affectionate way rather than to refer to them as being so out of control they should be in an asylum (another word that does not get used any more).

I suppose it depends on context doesn't it?
And how upset you are prepared to get over someone being silly on a message board.

they have been very accommodating if what the OP has written is to be believed. I believe it.

Yet they only just thought this was a good idea, when it should have been their first idea.

Perhaps there would be no need for name calling the person they have a contract with, if they had done this in the first place?

Since when have you bunch of keyboard warriors become arbiters of what's acceptable and what's not on a discussion forum? If I think she's a lunatic, and from the description of her by the OP it sounds pretty compelling, then she is. To me. Or do I need to use some polite, PC and inaccurate euphemism to save hurting someone's oh so very precious feelings? Someone who doesn't even know her? Would that be acceptable to you all? Diddums.
  • WOW, looks like the dictionary concurs!

    lunatic - noun

    lu‧na‧tic [countable]
1 someone who behaves in a crazy or very stupid way - often used humorously: This hotel is run by a lunatic!
2 old-fashioned a very offensive word for someone who is mentally ill:
    a dangerous lunatic

Lets get B&T to come and tell us whether he was using it in the modern way or the old-fashioned way. If it is the former he may survive, but if it is the latter, lets all type at him. Arooogah!

  • How did B&T know I was wearing my She-Ra outfit and using my keyboard with built in sheild? Have I left my webcam on again?

P.s. B&T, I posted the above about typing at you, before seeing your post.
