today my mum gave me a huge marrow, that had been given to her by a visiting friend - she had no idea what to do with it - so gave it to me knowing i would think of something.

  • I have been given loads of tomatoes again!

Plus a small laundry style box already rubbed down for repainting, some coat hooks and a load of clothes for my daughter.

The box is getting recovered in cushiony fluff stuff on the seat/top and painted in what ever colour I find on my travels. Im thinking cream or even light greens then I will put some detail on it - flowers or ivy

OH was given some walnuts from a neighbour with a walnut tree. As the walnuts were still in that soft, bitter stage but had already fallen, I roasted them with some cinnamon sugar, chopped them up and put them in my caramel coffee cake I baked this morning.

Mini HIFI. It is really nice to listen to the radio at work (time goes quicker) :)
  • I've been very lucky this week. I was given a huge punnet of cooking apples from someone through work, ive made a couple of crumbles and frozen the rest and i'll probably use the punnet for an xmas hamper or to store bits and bobs in the shed.
I'm moving soon too and after 2 1/2 years of living back with my parents i'm pretty much starting from scratch. my sister is having a new utility done so has wine glasses, some large plates, candlesticks vases etc and even a brabantia bin. my boss has given me a nice stanless steel kettle too :D

  • A 1kg pack of glace cherries (the really good French ones) from a colleague - he'd been picking up stuff from a food wholesaler and the outer packaging was a bit grubby so they'd given it to him. Inside, perfectly OK with over a year shelf life. That's an awful lot of cupcakes :-)

BIL gave me a huge sack of potatoes, if they don't go green first they will last us weeks! I'd easily spend a fiver a week on spuds so 20kg free is brilliant. I gave some away to friends too and there's still loads left! On Saturday a friend gave me a turnip/swede, cabbage and baby potatoes. Last night my granny sent over sausage rolls and apple tart and DH has taken those for his lunch. SIL gave me half a chocolate fudge cake last night too, and I'd made one yesterday morning so will return the favour and give her half of mine!
