Thank you so much Satch, those exercises so look like the thing I can do.

Sadly, having asked OH for help in the past I know this is a road fraught with failure. He's a control freak, taking over completely and refusing to listen to my limits. Just yesterday he asked me to help him carry a wardrobe down stairs to our garage, despite knowing that my consultant warned no lifting more than a bag of sugar. I said I couldn't do it, he stomped off in a mood. A few days ago I was talking to him about going out for more walks, his suggestion? We go for a 9 mile hike up the mountain near us. ATM I'd struggle with 0.9 mile stroll on the flat. He turns everything into a competition and sadly sucks the enjoyment and sense of achievement out of anything I try to do. He could do with getting fitter and losing weight himself but currently spends a lot of his time slumped on the sofa in front of the tv.

I'm determined to do this for me and know with the right choices I can make the changes I need to, so that eventually I can suggest 10 mile mountainous hikes to him

A very happy new year to you my dear and thank you for your support

Oh dear, Granny, it sounds like you need to start each day by stating how you are coping physically which I know might be depressing but serves as a reminder about limitations? He's "on the spectrum" so needs to be reminded each day, as he doesn't have emotional intuition.

Thanks again for the support and suggestions Satch, I have been trying not to burden OH with how I'm feeling but think maybe for now this is what is needed. Today we took the decorations down and once again OH did much more than usual, so clearly he has picked up on something. I had to sit down half way through, which is so frustrating but it all got done in the end. Planned to sort out the wiring behind the TV but instead fell asleep :o

NSD#2 today and tomorrow likely to be so too as weather reports say it's going to be stormy.

I'm hoping to do a bit of sorting out tomorrow but will have to see what sort of day I'm having as it's nothing that cannot wait really. Still waiting for reply from health care, was hoping I would hear something from them today, maybe tomorrow.

Maybe I'll do a debt review instead if it's not possible to do physical stuff.

  • Granny, much as I understand your desire to try and get your OH joining you in exercise I think perhaps you should work on this aspect yourself. I feel the frustration you feel at his totally unreasonable expectations will jeopardise your own motivation to do any exercise at all.

I agree, and if it's a goal of yours then don't let his thinking cloud your efforts. Even if it is a 5 minute walk to begin with that 5 minutes is more than nothing at all. Have you thought about trying something like tai chi which is good for the mind, body and spirit? There are some very gentle forms of yoga too?

Hi Mrs F and DF(w) thanks for your support. I agree, bringing OH into the mix with my exercise is most definitely not a good idea.

I have to exercise at home due to medical problems, so not sure Tai Chi is on the cards for now but plan to use yoga and pilates, plus Wii and Satch's useful website on off days.

today didn't go quite to plan as OH decided despite the weather, he wanted to get out for a while. Went veg shopping, bought some bits and pieces for the house and then for coffee. NSD #3 for me as OH paid for everything. Shattered when we got home so followed OHs example and slumped on the sofa watching TV. Managed to stay awake though so hopefully will sleep properly tonight. Can't believe my break from work is nearly over but still 3 days to go.

Nothing much planned for tomorrow and Granny day on Sunday. Monday plan on taking it easy before I go back to work on Tuesday.

Still no news from health care, suppose they must have been off for Christmas. Fingers crossed I get some news on Monday.

Finances wise, have made over payments to target predator, bank round down. Despite this may actually stay out of my overdraft this month. That's the plan anyway.

    Night all

Hope you don't mind me de-lurking, you say you have a wii? Do you have wii-fit? if so try the yoga on there. The warrior pose is good. I love the way they say hips & thighs when they really mean pelvic floor. Now I've lowered the tone I'll disappear again!!

Hello patanne, yes I do have Wii fit, never tried the yoga yet but plan to, once OH goes back to work next week.

Please don't disappear, I have no problem with lowered tones :)

Okay really lowering the tone now. Do you remember when they used to say if your boss was being a ***** then imagine him (it usually was a him in those days) sitting on the loo with his trousers round his ankles. I used to have a boss that the thought of that would send me queasy. He never used to ask anyone to sit down and I was having some problems having just had an op in the appropriate region, so it suddenly occurred to me to do (as recommended medically after the op) my pelvic floor exercises whilst he was being a jerko**. Definitely a win win situation and one I have been doing ever since when dealing with certain people. The disappointing part is that it is no longer so effective as I have now retired, but never mind I can still find some plonkers in the world that seem to respond to the treatment.
