Oh Granny, right here is the plan:
No more buying cards for others to write
State clearly to OH that birthdays are for celebrating and unless he books you into a day spa treatments at means company lunch out whatever
Clip DS firmly round the lug hole and say drawings on a paper folded as a card is the bare minimum for female important celebration dates.
No more helping other people, you are busy pairing Socks or painting your toes until they sort out please and thank you
Now be strong have a lovely bubble bath, a small drink of something delicious, nice and possibly sinful something ditto to eat then to bed warm and cuddly ....
Hugs for you I would gladly have spent the day with you today if possible nuts am doing my best joining you from the black boxStart info Dec11

Thank you all so much for your understanding and birthday wishes. The cupcakes are lovely Mrs F. I kept them all to myself but will share with DGDs on Monday and any of you that wants some
I'm sorry I had such a pity party yesterday but coming off the back of Mother's Day it hurt. Missrlr I will definitely take your advice as it really is bad of DS. Alice I too think DDIL could make an effort. I do on her birthday which is rapidly approaching
I don't expect much, just recognition that I'm a mum and a Granny and I matter. I'd be happy with just a drawing from the girls as long as it had been done with me in mind.
OH does not get why I was upset and just thinks I was in a mood. I'll try to explain it to him today, now the moment has passed. My biggest upset with him was the response to locking me out. He thought it was funny and even commented on how lucky it was that he hadn't gone to bed. I couldn't get over the thought that he'd even consider doing so before checking I was ok. So not the locking out but the lack of concern for my well being.
As to DM, well I just have to make excuses for her age and remember that she has always been this way and is not going to change now. Next year is a big birthday so we'll be going away but this is the last year I rely on others to make me feel valued. From now on I'll treat myself how I expect to be treated by others
We are going out for lunch today so that'll be nice but yesterday was one of the worst birth day's I've had since my 16th when the only person to remember it was my birthday was my best friend at school

You had every right to feel the way you did re DS and DIL. I don't know if it's consolation or not but I'm sure DGD's would have bought you a present themselves had they been old enough.

Thanks NL I watch out for him limping and know its struck
Thanks li'l miss Lucky I know DGDs would have done something if they could. Let's just hope their parents aren't teaching them not to value their special people.

Hi Granny
Sorry to hear you were on the receiving end of a distinct lack of consideration, such a shame when it's clear to read about all the occaisions that you put plans and thoughts in place for others.
Excellent advice from missrlr, treat yourself well (as you deserve) if your nearest and dearest haven't the gumption to provide that sort of care, be generous to yourself. Once they get the gist of what they have been taking for granted, maybe they will wise up and treat you the way you deserve. I wish I had a mum around that was so helpful and engaged with my DDs, yours are very lucky.
Take care.
