Happy Birthday Granny! Hope you have a wonderfully indulgent day.
:bdaycake:0 -
When I asked him why he didn't ring to see where I was and if I was ok, he looked really surprised as it clearly hadn't entered his head. x
Just to make you feel a wee bit better, I had an identical conversation with my DH - his answer was "but you just get on and take care of yourself, then scream if there is an issue so why would I think there was a problem?"
I chose to take it as a compliment otherwise it stings too much. I don't think it is a lack of caring, it's a lack of "being in the forefront of their minds" which is wearing.
I did once ask if DH actually ever thought of me during the day, the answer "yes when I want to know what's for dinner" he nearly wore the fry pan for that one!
Not sure there is a magic cure - after the statement "it would be nice to know you ever thought of me on occasion and I felt I shared your life" I do get an occasional text, but the gem of a reply was "but then we wouldn't have anything to talk about when we are at home" :rotfl:I didn't point out he is capable of spending a whole night on the sofa grunting and playing games rather than speaking
Chin up twin - I am sure they do love us, but are pants at showing it.

I've had a good old catch up on the diaries and spent the morning in contemplation.
Whilst you don't give to receive, the receiving, even if just a thought, goes a long way.
I fall over to make others feel loved and help whenever I can but tbh right now I'm miffed.
OH always goes on holiday for his birthday and therefore we are always able to spend it together. He is in work today, (didn't even attempt to get the day off despite having 2 days to use up before the end of March), and although he rang, did not seem too impressed when my response to his "Happy birthday" was I'm a sad old Granny spending the day on her own. Nor was he impressed when I said that No I hadn't opened my present yet as I was waiting for him to come home. Not quite the same opening it on my own, it's clearly charms for my bracelet anyway, I just thought I'd wait for company.
No cards from DS or DGDs or DF
Phone call from DM, "Happy Birthday, what are you doing for the day" Me. "nothing planned"
Her, "Isn't OH taking you out"
Me "No, he's in work"
Her, "Oh, do you pay for your calls"
Me "Yes"
Her "Oh well give me a ring if you want a chat"
Apparently I'm not even worth a phone call
Honestly I wonder where I am going oh so wrong
I did receive a personalised mug, (covered in photos of her) and card from DD though, which was nice.
Off for a bath now, which may be the highlight of my day.
Sorry for the pity post, I'm feeling a bit glum

Aw Granny, I truly hope that DS and DGD's turn up with balloons cards and cake tonight to surprise you. It really is rough if they don't, especially after Mother's Day! XxDebts @ LBM £23,729.31. Debts @ 08/04/2016 £0 :j

Thanks Piq the feeling is mutual
Dear Li'l miss Lucky I have more chance of you turning up to be honest. DGDs are with other Granny and although DDIL asked if I want to pick her up from work and she'll treat me to coffee, I'm not likely to see them if I don't go out of my way
None of them seem to realise how under-valued they make me feel. DGDs may not be our responsibility but OH never goes without a card from them, nor does his DM or anyone else in the family as I always ensure I have a suitable card for them to lovingly embellish with their delightful writing. At the end of the day they can hardly go out and buy their own cards. I know it should be DS that sees to it but OH never goes out of his way for me
I'm also upset about OHs behaviour last night, just one more sign that I don't matter. He arrived home with Galaxy and flowers which are nice. I thanked him but when I didn't enthuse enough, he was miffed and asked what was wrong. I tried to explain but got nowhere fast so now we're sitting in frosty silence
All very miserable really, but at least I had the day off as I don't think I could have coped with HIM as well.

I'd be there if I could!
Really think you should tell DS how disappointed you are. If you don't say anything it's a green light for him to do it again next time. As I probably said on Mother's Day, it's the thought that counts, so a cheap card or a homemade one is worth a million dollars. XxDebts @ LBM £23,729.31. Debts @ 08/04/2016 £0 :j

I'm so glad that you understand. I don't want expensive gifts, just an acknowledgement that I'm valued. I love cards with their drawings and writing more than anything. I told him I was upset about Mother's Day and cannot believe he's done it again. I can't help also being upset by OHs lack of understanding about the whole lot
Thanks for being there

Hi granny and a happy birthday to you.
Sorry to hear that you haven't had the kind of day with birthday treats and surprises that you deserve. I would say a little word to DS is called for. I'm surprised DIL didn't sort something out.
