I now go food shopping practically every day which satiates my need to shop
I have to food shop nearly every day coz we live on a boat and do not have a freezer.. I think you are doing brilliantly . I know how hard it is for us shopaholics..:)
I've had to go cold turkey really -food shopping just doesn't cut it for me I'm afraid and with supermarkets selling everything including the kitchen sink I really couldn't do it.
My newest obsession is NSD and as you will see from a previous post I even get cross when spending an unnecessary 50p on parking. :rotfl:
I just have to watch my down days as those are when I find myself in clothes shops buying unnecessary jumper dresses.
OO a boat - I love barges - when we were children we used to holiday on the canals and I wanted to be a lock keeper when I grew up. I've got a chip in my ankle bone from a barge pole, done when we had to back up the canal to turn around because the lock was closed for some reason.
My mum, my brother and my sister all fell in at some point or other. My mum fell in because my Nana, on one of her few trips to see us, forgot to tell my dad that my mum wasn't onboard yet and he moved off whilst she was walking up the gang plank.
My sister when she was watching a lad on the other bank and cycled into the canal.
My brother actually slipped off the lock side and fell in, luckily the water was in not out.
We also had to rescue a cow from the lock, with my mum trying to keep its head above water whilst we drained the lock so it could get out. Poor thing was terrified.
Fantastic memories of those holidays though.

Oh Granny what funny stories !!
I fell in the Thames when I was about 6 and can remember it as plain as day. We were at St Katharines Dock and I went running over to see my older Cousin who was leaning against the railings, slid on a patch of black ice, under the railings (somehow) and into the freezing cold River. Pretty scary at the time, but certainly something I will never forget and funny now when Ithink about it !!
Its lovely to have those memories isnt it, and traditions as well. I am determined my girls will have lots of things to remember and stories to tell to the next generation !LBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !

Why thankyou Granny !!
Both Mr Pinot and I had surrogate Grannies who unfortunately are no longer with us. Our girls are lucky though as they have three grandads and three grannies due to marriage break ups on Mr Pinots side, so they are very spoilt with Granny love ! xLBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !

When I was expecting my daughter, a fact I hadn't yet told my mum, I fell into a pool outside the local leisure centre. I remember jumping out quickly and looking around to see if anyone had seen me.
I was walking to meet my mum to go swimming and worrying about whether she would comment on my weight gain, so wasn't looking where I was going.
It was pouring with rain, so when I met her at the entrance to the car park, she asked me how long I'd been waiting. I was dripping wet and would have had to have been standing out in it for days to get that wet. :rotfl: She accepted my excuse though and we didn't go swimming.
She knows the truth now though :rotfl:

Absolutely, your story reminded me of a story about a Turkey one Christmas day, goodness know why, but I wont relay that one right now as my bed is calling for me !!

Sorry about that. I cant remember what I wrote, but no doubt it was all to do with the books you are reading the Grandchildren. Anyhow I think you sound a really lovely Granny !
I do that too, in fact I did it earlier replying to our new friend Bast xPinotGrigio41 wrote: »I cant believe we have only known you for a month and we now have another lovely friend Bast to add to merry band ! What fun we will have !
I know, its mad isn't it. I missed you all so much when I went away and couldn't wait to get back to see how life was treating you. Yes, :j we'll have to find out what her luxury item is, chocolate/wine/dr"gs, so I can find a suitable picture gift for her xPinotGrigio41 wrote: »I also have discovered how NL knew about Bast living on a boat when I didnt ,which I had a little sulk over earlier ! :rotfl:
I know, that did make me laugh. It's ok though I was somewhere else earlier and read about a conversation I'd had with someone before I'd had it :rotfl: It's hard keeping up with all the posts jumping around every where and us talking about things that happened in another diary :rotfl: Long may it last though, I love itPinotGrigio41 wrote: »Well done for standing your ground with the Predators. Most of mine havent specified how long they will agree to the payment offers for, but their letters generally state this is not a long term agreement. I am anticipating them wanting to do a review after 6 months, in which case my time is nearly up, so I will sit tight and see. The only people who have called for a review earlier have been M&S which was after three months.
I typed up a personal statement on excel and kept it up to date so that when they rang/wrote to say the agreement had come to an end I sent them an update, explaining that my situation hadn't really changed and therefore it needed to continue. As they are better off accepting than going down the formal route, (I've got no equity in my house and have defaulted on pretty much everyone), they are getting more now than they would if it went formal. I've made sure that they grasp this, by spelling it out clearly in my letters. Fingers crossed it continues this way, even if it takes me 12 years, its liveable and eventually, before I retire, I'll be DF.PinotGrigio41 wrote: »I ahve a blip every now and then. Although I have never loved wandering around the shops, I love to trawl the internet for bits and pieces, particularly bits for the house, cushions, picture frames etc. Now though as I pay for pretty much everything in cash its an impossibility for me to be tempted ! I have realised I dont need loads of clothes but I do have trouble where the girls are concerned as I would love to be able to buy them everything I see. I know it would do them no good what so ever though , and in fairness they dont ask for anything....but thats what being a mum or a granny is about isnt it ?? Spoiling the kids ?!!!
I know all about blips but like you as I pay for pretty much everything by cash nowadays its harder to spend.
I have far too many clothes and never anything to wear - I'm pretty frugal about clothes buying these days. Blips like jumper dresses still happen occasionally though - seriously what upset me most about that day was realising whilst I was standing at the till what I'd almost done and wanting to get the heck out of there.
Yes, part of being a mum/granny is spoiling your DC/DGC but of course the things that really matter are free - Granny hug anyone :grouphug: x
It's hard not being able to go and see my DD because of past spending mistakes and not being able to give my DS the wedding he deserves though. They really are fabulous DC though as they totally understand and don't judge me for it x
Gosh I'm doing a Pinot now - long post :rotfl:

I really loved your stories.. memories are wonderful and free. We live on the leeds liverpool canal.. really pretty .. I have a thing for water, my ambition would be to own a sail boat, but am to terrified to get one in case we sink, its a lot more safer on a canal, even when you fall in
My cats have fallen in and were not to happy, I was caught between being terrified for them and laughing because a wet British short hair is an amusing sight..
I long to have grandchildren, I too will spoil them rotten and hug them to death I love children, you are a very lucky lady:) As they are to have you..
