June 2012 Grocery Challenge

Hi all, I hope you don't mind me joining in. Seriously needing to follow this this month. I've fallen way behind on my budget, and so am only now finding out that I've been spending an average of £240 a month on groceries for me, DH and bubba who's 1. Of course I'm not just 'finding out' because I'm solely responsible for food shopping, but I've got into the good habit of doing a monthly shop, followed by the very very bad habit of popping to the shop with the buggy every two days and buying carp.
I'm not sure on my strategies really, still in a bit of a spin, but I'm going to dig out ideas from the first few posts and from the OS board, I'm going to keep up with you guys from here on in, I'm going to keep a running total for the month and we're having one (Ha! One!) official NSD on the last day of June, with the intention to start slow and build it up over the next few months.
I'm going to keep my own totals and may mostly lurk. GC aim for June 2012: £220. Best double check how much we've spent on monthly shop too.
Thanks in advance for letting me hop on board.MFW start date:22.6.13 - £138555 9.7.13 - £125937

Went to mr s today spent over £50 but not too worried as got a job lot of Oatly for little miss bossy so should almost last the month, and a rather huge nappy supply, as they were on offer, again, should see us out the month. Not sure on exact total as some bits were for inlaws, so will check receipt tomorrow.
Got some stuff on 2-4-1 so pleased with that. Still haven't checked what we have in, so meal plan scheduled for tomorrow.Bossymoo

Lots of new posters and lurkers today  Hello all
Bikingbint - The secret of cutting bread is to saw and not to press the bread. The bread must not be squashed so lots of backward and forward movement and no downward movement.
I thought I was going to have a NSD today but DH went and spent an undisclosed amount on groceries but probably about £4. So annoying though it is, I think I'd better not have a NSD and take £4 off my budget."Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence."Weight loss challenge:j: week 1~ Napoleon Bonaparte

Sig updated. I bought my groceries for the week today, so hopefully shouldn't need anything until next Tuesday :T
Pleased with myself for coming in under budget after last week's fiasco!
M&S had big bags of huge peppers with about 5 or 6 in for £1.60 today. I thought that wasn't too bad, although I'm sure some of you expert YS's will beat it;):)

Good morning all. A good day here. Sun and showers so the seeds are happy.
Not sure what dinner will be today. Probably a HM meal stuck in the freezer. I do have some turkey mince chilli in the fridge and a big portion of carrot n coriander. We could split them for a quick lunch. Failing that, I will freeze them.
Last of the milk being used up in the breakfasts so will have to improvise for OH as I am not going to get more!
Myself and the kids are ok with soya milk though
Still haven't bought redbush tea bags. It's now 2 weeks:j
I am pleased with my self restraint! The tap water is free to filter so I have made myself drink that.
Everything is getting so pricey. Soya milk is now 72p a litre. Redbush tea bags are ridiculously expensive. I've even thought of making myself fresh green teas from the garden with raspberry leaves, nettle leaves, strawberry leaves, etc.
By the way, to the person that was asking about sugar prices a few days ago. B&M are now 89p but super drug is 82p!!!
Edit:
Good to have you back Florenceem!
Ps,
Also found out that clover and daisies are edible. All grasses are edible (but only rhe juice that can be extracted as the fibre is indigestable). Honeysuckle is edible (it's not called that for nothing!), beech leaves. The most surprising of all is that the flesh from yew berries (but NOT the black seeds inside them!!!!) are edible!:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A
Grocery Spend Weekly Challenge (Sat-Fri):£30.50/£400 -
I wish my bank account would catch up with my food spends.
With the bank holidays, its taking ages for the money to leave my account. Its interesting to see that I have already spend nearly £200 this month  Step 1 has been to itemise all my spends so far. (Check). Step 2 is to continue keeping track of all spends. Step 3 is to meal plan (PROPERLY!)
I will get there!!0 -

Thanks, I didn't even know Superdrug sold sugar.
Your canvas print, may be worth checking if you have a Kodak Express locally, they were doing a jubilee offer from memory. They are high margin products so there is always room for negotiation.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -

Hi JJ Lemon balm and Moroccan mint make nice teas/ Please be careful with honeysuckle as not all are edible.. Nastursums flowers are tasty and you can pickle the seeds.Slimming World at target0 -
Welcome back Flo - your craft classes sound great, I have a brayer somewhere and dont think its ever been raised in anger! :rotfl:And yes, I have an appointment to see the Dr about my falling-on-the-floor incident, thank you for asking
I hope all the poorly backs and poorly DH's are continuing to improve :T
My months spends are already up to £65.59 but that does include 3 new hand towels and matching bath towels (DD nabbed all my nice ones when she moved out and the old ones remind me of ex, when we bought them, where we bought them etc) so I thought I deserved some nice new ones.
Yesterday spent £10 to top up my phone (unlimited texts, internet and 250 minutes which I think is very good from GiffGaff).
£1.98 in wetherspoons on 2 x tea.
£2.85 in Tesco Express on YS mushrooms (using them spread over 3 meals) and a magazine but I got the one with a free mascara so it was MSE really
99p in the Coop on 3 x YS dumplings
£27.35 on Tesco delivery which started off around £47.
I have a lamb tangine in the SC which should yield 3 or 4 portions for the freezer.
Yesterdays HM quiche did yesterdays lunch, todays breakfast and 4 good chunks to freeze.
And yesterdays LO chicken stir fry thing still has enough LO for today.
Planning on a NSD today0
