Sam re Cost*co - others may have different opinions but, to me, it really depends on whether you can club together for membership with a friend / relative & how big your family is.

We get discounted membership through work but, for me, I'd still struggle to justify the cost and, if I stock up when stuff is on offer elsewhere, I easily match / beat the prices.

Also, some of the sizes of products mean you have to be a reasonable sized family or have someone to split with them.

Saying that .... their meat is great!

Thank you so much for your helpful reply ashes.:)

    Good luck to everyone else.

Can one of you lovely GC people help me please- im sure this is abit of a daft question but how do you meal plan

Do you have a front page list with all your regular/fav meals and then put them in week by week maybe trying 1 diff receipe each week?

Do you plan for all meals including snacks or just evening meals?

I really want to meal plan but dont want to get stuck in a rut of Tuesday is pie night etc

I think this cold is fogging my brain :rotfl:

I'm VERY happy to report an nsd today. I walked around a!di, and bought some travel sickness bands, nothing else. Then I was next door to a$da, didn't go in! And, I really wanted one of the mcd new burgers for lunch, just to try, but I came home just before I started to feel hungry, and ate los instead. Oh, AND, I had a wander around mands while I was waiting for my fitting appt, and didn't buy anything there either, despite seeing some yummy juice and some ys nectarines! I'm so proud of myself!

We have a new a!di opening tomorrow, that'll be 3 in our town then! Don't need anything, though, so won't be going. I can't believe this is the same me!!

    Hi everyone,

Today is the first day of my Grocery Challenge for June 2012. It's my first time trying this out, so I'm hoping to stay within my budget for the month.

I did a stock-take of all the food/baking items etc in my cupboards, and did a meal-plan for the week, prior to doing my online shop, for delivery tomorrow, on Ocado. I was checking the confirmation email they sent me, when I noticed another email from them to say I could get 20% off an order from 07/06/12 - 09/06/12. I was well chuffed, so went back, edited my order, and added that gorgeous voucher code. So, my £93.89 shop, including £2.99 delivery, quickly came down to £78.89. I include toiletries, laundry powder, etc. in my grocery shop & am well happy with what I've bought. I'm hoping that my meal plan can extend to at least two weeks, as our portions are far too high as they are.

They did not have two items I ordered, so my shopping came in at £74.62. I have updated my signature.

As for my wonderful meal plan, well, my DS came in at lunchtime and cooked bacon, sausage & mushrooms for himself. So, now need to re-organise things a little.

I've now frozen all the meat, as I'm going to my GP tomorrow for a Diabetic blood test, so won't be cooking much.

Meal Plan for Week beginning June 7th:

Not quite sure, yet, which meal is for what day. Shall decide tomorrow :)

Whole chicken - will make chicken curry & rice, & some other concoction
Liver & bacon saute with potatoes & parsley
    Shepherd's pie
    Beef Stroganoff
    Mince & pasta concoction
    Irish Stew
    Salmon fillets
    Sausage & Mash
    Roast stuffed pork

It is my intention to batch-cook & freeze as many of these meals as possible.

I wish to say a huge 'Thank You' to everyone on here, for all your helpful advice, recipes etc. Without you it would not be possible.

    Thanks again,
    Sam22 :))

Whoops, went to get some bread and milk and, while the bread was YSd, a few other bits and pieces (half term kinda stuff) at full price went into the basket. Still, most of what we picked up was on the main list anyway, and the other items were YS too (a good spot to my DH - wonderful!)

Anyway, that makes another spend today of £11.82. I'll go off now and update my sig accordingly. Hope I'm not doing too bad first week in!

    - I worry about getting stuck in a rut. I use an MS Excel spreadsheet with one tab for dates and meals, another for budgets, another for recipes yet to try, etc. HTH

Made chilli con carne for tea using a portion of bolognese sauce from the freezer, 1/2 a tin of beans and some spices from the rack - had it with sauteed potato slices and bread & butter. It was very nice, but thankfully full now. :) Hope everyone has a lovely evening.

with my decision to never shop there again and to reduce the amount i spend in the big SMs I have just done an online meat order , not any cheaper but british free range , naturally finished meat . hopefully the quality will be far superior:T

    welcome to the newbies

    - I too have made the same decision as you a few months back (especially Mr Ts as I just think they are one big rip off!!), but can I ask who you ordered your on line meat from. I order from Donald Russell (as do many of us on here:D) and also Westin Gourmet, so was wondering if you use another online meat shop? Many thanks

    Hi All

Spent £5 in Mr T yesterday on some lunch things for work. Just me at home tonight so cooked pasta and pesto for myself - cheap, easy and everything in stock. Have already updated my signature. :)
