Day 2 of challenge and still doing okay! Spent 65p on nice bunch of asparagus and bag of carrots from cwarp. Re Mr T's and the £5 off 40 I will do a virtual shop online, check the other threads for misprices, glitches and vouchers, shop around yellow sticker time, use my clubcard, micro examine my bill for misprices and womble any big bills that may have unclaimed points on that have fallen on the floor or in a trolley.....Geez who needs entertainment when you can have all that excitement in the supermarket!January 2020 Grocery challenge £119.45/£200

We {sorry, I mean I] know all the supermarket tricks and we're normally good at using them instead of us being used by them but we've slipped. We were well over our May target, we have full freezers and cupboards so we are now on a drive to shop more smartly from now on. I've sat down with DH and really made him listen to how supermarkets are conning us with the majority of their offers, I didn't think he was getting it until he came home tonight and talked about an offer he'd seen in the co-op and how he thought it was a good offer until he worked out unit cost and compared it with other shops and then the LightBulb Moment hit him - it was interesting to see him working it out and realising what I've been saying is the truth!!!! He is now FULLY on board and ready to play them at their own game lol, infact he's out for vengance!
So with our goals in mind I drew out cash for this weeks shop and boy has it made me more aware of what I'm spending and where its going. First time I've done it with cash, won't be the last.

Its cash everytime for me, when I used my card I was always forgetting one or two or three times it was used, now with the cash in my purse. I know exactly what Ive spent by whats left and have got to hate seeing it go down so am more careful and aware everytime I go shopping.

I have an M&S card, which I use for almost everything. I always pay it off when the statement comes in, and they pay me to use it :T Over the years, it has paid for a portable dvd player, a tv for the bedroom and one or two other items for the house.
My system is: every receipt which is paid on a card is written in my book. I keep a running total of all withdrawals from our bank account, and all the Direct Debits get added up together to come out as a lump sum once a month. Anything on the Credit Card is written down as if it had come out of the bank account. All credits are added in as and when they go into the bank. When the bank statement comes at the beginning of the month, it gets balanced to the book - to the penny! I think I may have OCD when it comes to this
I only use cash for small amounts, because I like the idea that I get paid to use their card :rotfl:2025 Fashion on the ration

Literally popped to Mr Ts last night got a half price bag of salad (new brand so discounted) for 65p, some Italian Cheese rather than the more expensive real parmesan £2.50 and 45p for the Mirror so that I could get the Aldi vouchers again. Total £3.60, very pleased with myself for resisting other temptation. My Debt Free Diary LBM March 2010

i do this too, i pay for everything on my CC ( you must make sure your card is cleared every month) and then i save the money they pay me to use it .:D
NSD today , i am going to do roast veg for tea with some bendy veg and scour the freezer for bits and bobs to go with it ( i know there is a random piece of fish and southern fried chicken )0 -
Hi all:)
I started June's challenge last week so have already spent £70 in sainsbobs and £18 in Iceland. Did an inventory of freezer and cupboards and have enough meals for the next few weeks so will try and limit visits to supermarket and see if that helps the spending:o.
Grandsons are staying over the weekend so between them and our teenage mancub the food mountain will probably be depleted :rotfl:sooner than i think.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend of fun and limited spending xMoving towards a life that is more relaxed and kinder to the environment (embracing my inner hippy:D) .:j0 -
Hi
I can't use my card anymore - its too tempting to put things on there and pay some other time, I'm not disciplined enough to pay it off when I should - hence the debt we have now!! I know my own weaknesses and CC's are one of them, I use the debit card for petrol and other bits but when food shopping it has to be cash now - its making me so much more aware of what we're spending and I'm constantly thinking about what we need and how much it is and also which week I'll buy it in.
