Wow, the herb planter looks lovely! Another spend today for me but only a tiny one - 44p for a ball of cheapo mozzarella for tonight's tea - I'll grate half of it and use it on the meaty pasta we'll be having. The rest, I'm thinking I'll freeze until another day.

Shall get my mealplan together and post it on the mealplan thread, I guess. Hoping to not have to spend much! I've kinda come to the conclusion I'm a bit of a shopping addict where supermarkets are concerned and that's something I really need to break. Must. Have. Willpower.

    Hi Jumblejack,

Was the planter easy to make, I could really do with something like that for my salad leaves. Also, is it cheap to make?

    Thanks

Dead easy. We used 9x 2.5m deck boards for this as we had a huge unused area at the side by the patio. They are 3 for 2 at B&Q. The wood cost just under £30. Not bad at all for the size of it!

It will look nicer when it's stained but I was eager to get the plants in it :)

Much cheaper to make than buy!!!!

    Hi
I can't use my card anymore - its too tempting to put things on there and pay some other time, I'm not disciplined enough to pay it off when I should - hence the debt we have now!! I know my own weaknesses and CC's are one of them, I use the debit card for petrol and other bits but when food shopping it has to be cash now - its making me so much more aware of what we're spending and I'm constantly thinking about what we need and how much it is and also which week I'll buy it in.

    Helen x

:T:T half the battle against debt is knowing your weaknesses and doing all you can to avoid that. what works for one doesnt work for everyone , well done . the cash thing doesnt work for me as it seems to disappear out of my purse and i dont know where its gone :o

JJ your planter looks fab x

    Hex2, £90??!!!!
What on earth! How is that gonna entice you back?!
Blimey, they haven't got a clue about our grocery challenge!

I usually do one big home delivery grocery order a month which I could get up to that, but these are instore only. I don't remember the last time I spent that much instore.

£3.50 on milk (1 x 1% for me, 2 x 2L cravendale for everyone else, cheapest option in co-op) and £1.06 cash and £2.50 nectar in MrS on sweet potatoes, bananas, apples and grapes.

Curry for dinner tonight, and we are playing spot the chicken
Chicken (350g), sweet potato and pea curry, lentil dhal, spiced potatoes and rice with value pitta breads, CBA to make naan after work, and I would have to buy yoghurt. Whatever doesn't get eaten will be portioned and frozen for DH pingy lunches.

  • Hello peeps

This is my first month on the grocery challenge. No idea what I'd spent last month on groceries etc so trawled through my bank statement and had spent a grand total of £415  plus £100 from the ATM. There are 5 of us to feed, (3 kids, my OH & me) plus a dog and a three-legged cat (with no tail). Well that amount put the frighteners up me, I can tell you. No wonder I'm overdrawn :(

    Hi all

NSD for me today but I do need to pop up to town tomorrow, could do with some loo roll, and I have run out of serum for my hair. There's a couple of other bits on the list too. But we have plenty of food in.

I'll probably go to home bargains and the freezer shop next door (few bits for jubilee tea party).

Actually, it's not an NSD I forked out for a carpet this morning but it was in my decorating budget for last month, and it's not edible. Lol. Thing is, I've blown the decorating budget, and luckily have carpet and bed included, but I have no curtains, and no lightshade. And I could do with a couple of bedside tables too. Oh dear. Maybe if I can save on groceries, if I ever find the right colour curtains, I can buy them lol.
