  • Hi Helen

No, lord have mercy, £415 is def not my budget!!! It's way, way beyond what I should be spending!! I should be able to manage some NSDs next week as it's just me & OH, the kids are away most of the week and we'll be eating from our stores in the freezer hopefully. So I think I'll say £300 for the month and hope I'm not being too optimistic :rotfl: But I do need to get it below £300 over the next few months with perseverence!!

    Cheers H! x

  • I can't use my card anymore - its too tempting to put things on there and pay some other time, I'm not disciplined enough to pay it off when I should - hence the debt we have now!! I know my own weaknesses and CC's are one of them, I use the debit card for petrol and other bits but when food shopping it has to be cash now - its making me so much more aware of what we're spending and I'm constantly thinking about what we need and how much it is and also which week I'll buy it in.

:T:T half the battle against debt is knowing your weaknesses and doing all you can to avoid that. what works for one doesnt work for everyone , well done . the cash thing doesnt work for me as it seems to disappear out of my purse and i dont know where its gone :o

That's me too - I just can't be trusted with cash (now down to withdrawing about £30 / month) ...if I have to break a £20 on something costing £1, the rest will be gone by the end of the day:( - it literally does just vanish from my purse too but I can tell you exactly what I've spent on the cc (cleared in full each month) - funny how different things work for different people - it's a case of finding what works best for you:)

    Jumble jack love the planter!:j

NSD for me:T - going to try to keep plugging away at reducing the stockpile. There is now room to find things in the freezer;) and I can now do a nice big batch cook over the weekend to restock HM ready meals for the coming month (and use up some of the mince / chicken that's lurking in there that I couldn't use as had no room to put anything new in the freezer before:D)

June already, can hardly believe it!

I was thinking today would be a NSD, was taken poorly the other day (actually passed out, highly embarrassing to wake up on the floor, but at least a nice ex army medic was holding my hand) :o so I havent been out to spend any money.
I wondered if you were ok. You said you were poorly the other day, but that was the understatement of the year! Hope you're much better now

Hi Helen. I'm the other way around :o If I have cash in my purse I spend, spend, spend :( and I'm not disciplined enough to stop! It's what works for each person, I suppose!

    Hi,
Didn't manage a NSD today :( went into Asda to buy one of their photo birthday cakes for my grand parents 60th wedding anniversary tomorrow, I really should have been blinkered as they had a load of ys items, packs of 4 tins of spaghetti for 50p, boxes of washing powder for £1.25, large jar of hellmans mayo, reduced to 90p, not sure why as its in date till next yr?? load of other stuff that I've forgotten :p, my freezer is now even more jam packed after I got about 6 pack of ys sausages too, so spent way more than just the cake! will add to sig now, really really need to avoid sm's for a while, but need sour cream as DD has requested chilli con carne for tea, maybe I should send DH in with strict instructions, wonder if he'd be more restrained than I seem to be at the moment!

1/4 of my budget gone and its only 2nd June. The Jubilee is to blame as I had to stock up for our part in the street party on Monday :) (I'm doing green salad for 50 people (will get Mon morning!) plus drinks for all the kids and a Victoria Sponge - my daughter (10) volunteered me for the sponge bless her, not knowing that half the people round the table belonged to the local WI! No pressure:o
We decided to treat ourselves to this book by Mary Berry et al - the title says it all really.
Great British Bake Off: How to Bake: The Perfect Victoria Sponge and Other Baking Secrets
We also had to supply goodies for both nursery and school parties as well so that explains it I guess.;)

I'd like to follow you all here this month - I won't set a budget but use this first month to collect up receipts and get a good idea of what we are spending.
    Is that OK?
    Trying to keep in budget.
