Still not got my paperwork back, but as well as the extra payment, I got £40 extra in my normal payment. Thought it might be a bit more but still a nice surprise. So one month's grace, and then I'll have to contact them on 1st September to tell them eldest is starting uni, so it'll pretty much all disappear again!
hi. my son is also starting uni in sept. i thought payments stopped for them the week they leave college. is this not right?. i havent rung to tell them hes left college yet as iv been waiting 11 weeks for my claim to get sorted, and i dont want to confuse them even more.
  • I'm not officially sure to be honest, but the child benefit lasts till 31st August so I just assumed this would be the same. It says to let them know if they start a course at university, so that's when I'll be telling them. After all, she might not even get the grades!

If he's going to uni it's till 31 Aug. If not it's the last day at college. If he intends to go to uni but changes his mind/doesn't get the grades etc, then it's up till the date he changed his mind!

Does anyone know if a first claim take's longer than a renewal? Make's sense to me that it would however just need to double check.

Sent our pack back on July 18th they have told me they got it July 23rd but still not heard anything

I was also told to call them and "update" once they'd put my paperwork on the system because my son was awarded high rate DLA after the financial year ended and I was awarded carers allowance shortly after that so it's not reflected on the paperwork!

Hi, desperate and in a panic over tax credit demands

Firstly we have always notified Tax Credits of any changes straight away within 7 days of the change, we have had a lot of changes as my hours have been up & down like crazy.

We have had tax credits paid weekly since the start of our claim and therefore we thought that if we have had any changes they would adjust our payments accordingly and as our weekly amounts have gone up & down (as expected) with increase and decreases in income & childcare thought everything was ok.

Anyway our most recent changes - I had my hours reduced from full time with some child care to 21 hours and no child care - which we notified them straight away so our payments went up from £10.44 a week to £49.44 a week, as my income had gone down by £10,000 a year.

I renewed (admittedly at the last minute as we were sure it would go down) about 1 week ago.

we have received our payment this week as normal so just thought they have not processed the claim yet.

But today we got 2 letters:- which has scared us to death as we are still heavily in debt and have no money to spare at all.

1st Letter : Notice to Pay overpayment for period ending 05/04/2010 = £1266.03

2nd Letter : Notice to pay overpayment for period ending 05/04/2011 = £386.32

How can they be making claims for overpayments for 2009/2010 when we have notified them of every change.

How can we owe them anything when my income has just reduced by £10,000 a year. ...

We cannot afford to pay this back by the date they have said - 08/09/2012 - it does say we can pay over 12 months

Total Overpayment £1652.35, which would be £137.70 a month, we have no spare money a month - in fact we have only been surviving the last 6 months since my salary dropped because of the £49 a week tax credits this has been buying our food as all our income goes on clearing our debts and getting to work.

Any advice, they did say we would get several letters after the renewal was done, but we were not expecting this.

My renewal took 14 weeks start to finish, I didn't have to give them any prove of child care or anything like that, they just suddenly sent me a final award notice and that was that. They have a huge job to do. Luckily we are fortunate enough not to have to claim anymore so won't have all this bother next year! X
