  • Did mine by post on the 20th May, and received a lump sum today, so 3 weeks total.
    No changes, no childcare.
  • They are advising 8 week turn around now, they told me this last week as I've been waiting 6 weeks nearly (single, 1 child CTC only but 2011-12 estimate was 6k over what I actually got- made redundant and went onto IS), my sister rang today she was told to ring if nothing heard in 8 weeks.

We generally get paid on a Tuesday but received our payment today, wondering if it is an extra payment or not?

anyone else tried ringing today and after EVENTUALLY getting through all the messages and options got a recoded message saying "we cannot deal with your call at the moment please call back".
The advisor tried to say that they were 'thousands of people' renewing at this time

who'da thought when they are sending out the renewal packs??? forward planning would be too much to expect!

one day they'll reach the 21st centuary and let you complete it online!!!!
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

There is that relatively unknown medium of paper available......aka the annual declaration form.....renewals don't have to be done over the phone.....

when you say forward planning - would you suggest hiring a couple of thousand of extra untrained staff just for the renewals period?

Blame the government - they have halved the number of HMRC employees.

however - if you have a change (as I do they have my childcare recorded incorrectly) you need to phone them not send back the form. ALSO the form MUST NOT (their words) be folded - mine has been (blame the hubby) it also has tea spilt on it (blame the kids). So I have to phone them - believe me it is not a job I enjoy and avoid at all costs (namely cause they generally get whatever I have told them wrong anyway - see above point) however occasionally needs must. But thank you for your helpful comment.

if that is what is required. I believe the thousands of unemplyed people would love a job.

The vast majority of people who are calling do NOT have changes to make, so blame them for clogging up the phone lines. If your childcare was recorded incorrectly then would have shown up before now on your last award notice - it wouldn't have suddenly appeared on your renewal pack, so you should have called before now.

So basically you would advocate hiring thousands of additional staff, paying them during training for a couple of months, putting them on the phones with no experience which would risk mistakes and further delays then laying them off again after a couple more months?
That is the best that would happen - I would prefer thousands of staff were hired and used to combat the billions of fraud commited by Tax Credit claimants

    was I blaming anyone else??

Erm....yes - it sounded like you were blaming HMRC and it's employees......not the government.
  • Hi all, I renewed around a month ago and forgot all about it but I have received a payment today normally I would get paid Mondays the payment is the exact amount I normally get so don't want to get excited in the case its an early payment rather than an extra one any thoughts on can I get excited or not lol:j????

After 3 minutes to get to the right menu and a further 10+ minutes waiting I finally renewed over the phone today. It wasn't as bad as I thought thankfully.

My mind is drawing a bit of a blank at the minute but there were a couple of issues with my initial award:

    1. It was automatically backdated 3 months which I declared as incorrect as it was only 1 month
    2. My initial annual earnings were estimated too high

I've had a couple of new award notices for the points above and also when I reported my AML finishing and then again when my employment recommenced. What I'm not sure about is if they have already taken into account the overpayment for backdating and the underpayment for incorrect salaries. I'm worried now that I'll be hit with a charge for the initial overpayment as the weekly figures I got were pretty much the same for last tax year as this tax year! Hope that makes sense.

Will be bricking it for the next few week :(
