Best win so far - holiday to Florida0 -
Not a chance PLMBL. 2 holiday lets cleaned today along with DS. Now onto doing my own house. Am annoyed at DD though as yet again she has upped and off out without doing a thing except leave a trail of devastation in her wake. Not talking to her . I have my brother and SIL coming down tomorrow for dinner so that'll be good. I've made some lentil soup and I have some sweet potatoes so will make some soup from that too. We will then have chicken casserole.
DS heading out just now to his friend's so a couple quiet hours for me.
Heating is now completely kaput and is getting rather cold here. Will call the plumber on Monday and see when he can get started. Am a bit fed up today but no real reason for it other than being skint as usual and no road out of it yet. Never mind. I'll be fine xx5 Year plan. Morning all. Just having a look for chicken pie recipes. Going to make chicken pie for family dinner. 8 people coming. I have made lentil soup and also curried sweet potato soup. Just about to do the filling for the pie and make some shortcrust pastry. I am not making a pudding but will make custard creams for afters and everyone will be happy with that. Am looking forward to a wee catch up with the family
.
Hopefully no real spends today. Am also hoping rain stays away so I can get my washing dried. Impossible to dry it in the house with no heating. Will need to get that sorted ASAP as it really is getting cold now. I had to take my hot water bottle to bed last night.
Busy wee day ahead so I best get on. Have a good day all xx5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60

hi folks. Lovely wee family day. I unfortunately did end up spending money as had no wine and needed rolls for the soup but hey ho. Annoying thing is that we never even opened the wine .
My brother is great but forgets sometimes that I am a bit skint( ok a big bit skint:o) and he came in today and has booked us all for Christmas dinner in a local restaurant  £43 per head  and I had £15 each to pay today so had to pay out £45 . We did discuss this ages ago but tbh I could do without it. However, when I stopped and thought about it, it will probably be the cheaper option as I would have ended up cooking for about 10 of us and would have spent a fortune. So for next 3 months I will give my SIL £40 and that will cover drinks and taxis too. I have already decided that this year I will not be buying massive amounts of food as I end up eating the majority of it myself and piling on the weight. Also when I eat too much junk food as you know I end up in agony. So it's probably for the best.
I will keep the wine and use it at some point. They were quite cheap bottles from Aldi so not a big deal.
Dinner was lovely. We had curried sweet potato and lentil soup, HM chicken pie and trimmings and DD made custard creams and individual chocolate fudge cakes. I am stuffed. Not good for diet though and I better sort myself out or I will never lose my 2.5lbs per week
.

Glad you had a good day today MIT, even if you didn't open the wine.:)
After my summer hols every year I would buy three extra items in my food shop each week to put away for xmas. After xmas last year I decided not to do it anymore. This is due to the fact my kids have grown up and eat out a lot now and a lot of biscuits and treat food went out of date cos I was the only one that would eat this stuff. Seems i'm the only one who eats junk food as everybody else in the house is into healthy eating. Still save xmas stamps each week which will pay for the food shopping at xmas. Think a lot of people buy to much food at xmas anyway. Going out for xmas dinner will be a lovely treat for you, so relax and look forward to it.
Your dinner sounds yummy, especially the puddings.x:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.000 -
Amber my problem is that I will not let things go out of date so I eat them
. Then I moan the face off everyone cos I have put weight on so this year will definitely be a toned down affair as far as food is concerned. I already have a litre of vodka in and it will probably not get touched before then so I have my booze in already. Just pressies to buy :eek:
Well after stressing about paying out the £45 deposit yesterday for Christmas dinner I got an e-mail in work early this morning to tell me to collect my bonus ball winnings- £30:j. So only £15 down now. How cool was that. Then got a text asking DS and I to do both houses again this week so that'll be another £20 in my pocket. I might even manage an overpayment this month if I keep this up .
I am going to a birthday party on Saturday night for a lass in work. It's her 50th and her daughter's 18th. A crowd of us are putting in money so we can get a better gift. I had said that we could just get the daughter a small thing and her Mum a decent gift so a £10 per head should suffice. Everyone was okay with that except 1 woman who said we should put in £20 per head. I already had a conversation with her last week saying I couldn't afford that much this month but she still said it again today. For once, despite being mortified, I stuck to my guns and said NO and that I would do my own thing. She then went on about how it would cost me more to do that ( huh right I am an MSE'r) and just kept making me more and more uncomfortable. Thankfully everyone else agreed with me and it looks like we will put in about £10- £12 each. I am annoyed though that it led to such a big discussion after I had already said I couldn't do it. So embarrassing when you're the only skint person:o.
Anyways I am now sitting with my feet up. Ironing is done and house is tidy so I am happy enough. Going to hang up the washing and put the heating on as it is chilly chilly here now. Catch you all later x5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60

Good for you MIT sticking to your guns, maybe somebody else in work is having money problems and was glad with what you said, I get fed up with collections in work where people have already said how much everybody should contribute, I am of that age where I don't care what they think and I turn around and tell them I will put what I wont in.
Well done on the money front hope your good luck continues.x:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.000 -
Its getting cold quickly. I am fed up with being frozen!Trying to shift that debt!0

d Well SBO not to make you jealous or anything but I appear to be getting flushings and they are lovely and cosy :rotfl:.Am I the only woman in the world who quite likes them? I keep opening windows in work and the shocked looks are hilarious. Then 5 minutes later the window gets shut, cardy goes on and I am back to my usual frozen self. Ho Hum!!
Amber I am pretty much the same now. I will not do things just to look good as my priority is my kids and home. I love buying gifts for people but I am not going to pay out that amount of money just to please someone with no mortgage, no kids and 3 years off of retirement. I'm sure her bank account is a darned sight healthier than mine .
So today I have paid £12 for the gifts. I have overspent on food though and bought some flowers for my wee aunty who was 81 today. They only cost £3 though and she was delighted to see me and show off all her gifts.
I ended up buying a chippy for dinner for DS and I as I was so late home. I have been involved in a special exercise in work for 2 days and it has been very interesting and I have really enjoyed it. All done now but it has made me realise how fed up I am and how much I need a change. So I have applied for another job . I am terrified and need to sit and work on competency framework , which I have not had to do for years. I need a change though as I am just plodding along and I am bored stiff. Still 20 years to work. Not too keen to leave the civil service so this job is made for me .Exciting stuff.
Will need to get back on my diet so I feel nice and confident in myself if I get to interview. One excellent thing is that my brother works there and I can just slot right into his car pool so would only take my car every 4th week :T.
