Bring the business back to profit and privatise before the impact of the price increases further erodes the business into losses again.
You think privatisation will bring prices down?
I post around 30,000 items a year and RM do a great job in general, a few things I'm not happy with (like the removal of compensation for one and the most infuriating thing is their blooming automated menus when phoning customer services) but on the whole my customers get their orders within a day or two at a price no one else can offer.
It seems you don't want to speak to the person who should have advised you on this matter so you can't really complain that much...In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
No - regrettably not. This is destined to lose money. Raising prices will cause more hardship than the other measures taken and could seriously impact demand for core services. If there were money to be made in letter/small package delivery competition would have raised its head a long time ago. This surely should be viewed as a public service, requiring a certain amount of taxpayer support. You think privatisation will bring prices down?
Without government support the Royal Mail will end up like the railways. Unfortunately many people have a choice when it comes to travel medium. Like it or not we are currently stuck with the Royal Mail for letter/small packet delivery.
In my opinion removing some of the regulators powers indicates a wish to privatise the Royal Mail or part of it. We are in difficult times financially and it is tempting for any government to wish to save cash but I believe this is a mistake with the Royal Mail.I post around 30,000 items a year and RM do a great job in general, a few things I'm not happy with (like the removal of compensation for one and the most infuriating thing is their blooming automated menus when phoning customer services) but on the whole my customers get their orders within a day or two at a price no one else can offer.
I feel very sorry for you with the recent rises. Not sure of the impact on you as a business purchaser but guess your costs have risen substantially. The Royal Mail still list compensation pegged at £46 for the standard services. Why hasn't this been raised to £60 reflecting 100x the cost of a first class stamp as was the old measure?
Yes - I take that on the chin - hardly worth upsetting a friend over £1.87. The frustration with this situation gave rise to the semi-rant about outragious postal charge increases brought in at the end of the month, on a Monday. Regrettably It drew a few worms out of the woodwork. It seems you don't want to speak to the person who should have advised you on this matter so you can't really complain that much...0 -

so what about the Labour Govt' before wanting to do the same? The Tories before that?
were you vocal then?
what about when the market opened a decade ago?

Custardy - you make no sense to me.
Perhaps you will be happy when you have to pay full wack for your healthcare, childs education and police services.
Yea, i know, you have no kids or health issues and are a vigilante:-)0 -

I don't make sense as you are just waking up.
go back a decade or so.
then you an talk of state subsidy for RM and the like
boats sailed,horse has bolted etc
you are whining on a done deal.
the changes to pricing structure, splitting of Post Office counters etc is all a preemptive move before privitisation.0 -

Fortunately not too bad, 10pence extra on core product (sent LL) which was absorbed, packets are proving expensive but I can understand the reason for the increase.
The compensation was stripped for account holders using bulk services.
Whilst there may be little to no competition if you compare to the courier market, companies like Amazon are squeezing companies like Yodel for lower prices (due to consumer behaviour) and the service seriously suffers with 'home delivery networks' creating a varying level of service due to staff being paid peanuts. There is always a cost to lower prices somewhere. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

As you start work at 2.30 am, it is way past your bedtime!
....all very clever - did you think this was priviledged information that it was somehow clever to hold back?
You are repeating the obvious with your own assumptions.
The political angle doesn't make it any more palatable and there is nothing I can do about it. I am guessing there is nothing you can do about it either, so why is this my fault?
Defending the Royal Mail's price increases on the basis of apathy is not acceptable to me and I will not change my opinion.0 -

which post was that in?0 -
I believe the point was that you have been apathetic until this point and that the changes and increases have been going on for years but only now have you decided to get annoyed about it, if you had been going to war earlier perhaps you may have been able to stop it getting this far.

We would have the impact of an amoeba. What would you suggest could have been done?
Your attitudes in this thread are symptomatic of the problem. If there is no collective sharing of information and mutual purpose that rises above arrogant self interest, nothing will ever be achieved.
Royal Mail issues have a minimal impact on me personally. I just hate to see this country and its services going rapidly downhill.0
