No, they're reliable and for smaller items provide good value for money

Just add 40% at the drop of a hat to the most basic service

Regrettably my annoyance is shared by postmen and the little sub post office staff, who will suffer.

I expect the big picture and the history of the Royal Mail or was it consignia to be lost on you.

I am genuinely surprised that the general consensus here is that the Royal Mail offer a good service and everyone is happy with the latest rises. I personally would go to war for less :-)

Two questions - what earth shattering job do you do, and have you ever been to war?
Businesses run by politicians = disaster. Privatised businesses sold to mates of politicians = bigger disaster. Scenario 2 is on your doorstep for Royal Mail.

IT contractor for 10 years but latterly fencing contractor - what is your mind bogglingly intellectual excuse for an existence? - not relevant but mildly interesting.

I haven't been to war but presumably from the indulgent question, you have?

Interesting that you should class the Royal Mail as a 'bigger disaster' company but my comments on their price increases make no sense.

the franked impression should show the rate for the date is was printed -

i.e. - if you franked it on the 28th it would show the 'old' price and this is ok (no surcharge)

    - if it showed the 30th it needed to show the new price.

Any post 'in the system' (i.e sat at post offices after their last collection on saturdays) would therefore not be surcharged. One of our franking customers dropped off loads on the saturday dated the 28th with the old prices - it didn't leave until monday and there were no surcharges (we're talking 100+ items).
