I was going to suggest washing them too, boil a kettle and rinse them in boiling water before using them which should kill off anything thats been deposited on them.
you might want to clean the fridge out too?Blah0 -
I'm going to clean the fridge out and give cans of juice and bottles a wipe too.
I have had such a wasteful day today and the dogs got an unopened packet of cooked chicken that had gone out of date without me noticing.
I have 2 dogs so can feed the eggs today and tomorrow and they will be fine.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
Oh poor you. Last summer I was making a curry and left the raw chicken on the worktop while I went to get something out of the cupboard. Came back and there was a bluebottle crawling all over the chicken. I had to bin it, no way could I have eaten it even if it had been washed, and I am fairly hardy about these things!
I put things in the fridge uncovered sometimes too - you have just been very unlucky.0 -
You could rinse them in diluted vinegar as is recommended with salad/Fruit - this article demonstrates how well it works.

Thanks for the tips but I can't get the thought of baby maggots in my belly out my head. The dogs have much shorter digestive tracts so won't be burping up bluebottles (eeuurgh!)If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

I leave the shells on my eggs until i use them.0

I'd wash and feed to the dogs and every single solitary thing in my fridge would be scrubbed.. jars etc would be put in the sink and have boiling water tipped on them.. I cannot stand flies.. I have a can of raid in every room they actually make me sick. The poor fridge would be bleached to within an inch of its existence!
I can't even use a mug more than once at the moment in case a fly walked on it.. they have poo on their feet.. and they sick on things so they can eat it.. and worst of all.. they used to be.. *gulp* .. baby flies... OH is now laughing at me shuddering and asked what I was doing.. lol..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

It's pitch black in the fridge and freezing cold. The fly would have gone to beddy-byes:D0

Hi ali-t,
I'm afraid I wouldn't be keen on eating them either. As your thread has dropped down the Old Style board I've added it to our food safety thread.
