Wouldn't cross my mind not to eat it.

I would cook it up and serve to my children without a second thought. I, like others go by smell, feel and look of the meat.
I have had off meat that has been days in date. :(

Non of us has ever had food poisoning just so you know. :)

Defrost it. Sniff it. If you don't pass out, cook it. As with any frozen meat, cook it thoroughly. If you do pass out, throw it away when you come to.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

I swear when I was a child my Dad would get great big lumps of meat out of the freezer that had been in there for years. We never got ill. I am 30 so this wasn't in the dark ages either.

We found a duck in the freezer last year (can't remember how long it had been in there at least 1 or 2 years) just thawed it out slowly and cooked thoroughly it was lovely.

It's been in the freezer but that seems an awful long time, would anybody be reluctant to use it?

    Thanks x

Definitely eat it! I never even think of things like that. I attempt to use things in my freezer in some sort of rotation but it doesn't always work so it's a bit hit and miss. Hardly anything in my freezer has a date on anyway as I repack most things to save on space. A far as I'm aware frozen food doesn't go off. There's a chance that the look or quality might be compromised by freezer burns but it'll be perfectly safe to eat. Enjoy!!

As long as it was within date when frozen it should be fine. Of course, use your senses, taste smell etc

ive merged this with our food safety thread. Do let us know how you get on

This thread will also be of some interest - frozen food safety misconceptions

I made a chilli in the slow cooker yesterday with mince that had previously been frozen and defrosted in fridge overnight sun/mon.

we haad some for tea for last night and I meant to put the rest in fridge but forgot. It has been sat in slow cooker (off) with lid on and kitchen is fairly warm.

Hubbie put it in fridge this morning.

Will it still be ok to eat tonight?

I'm sure it will be absolutely fine. I've done exactly the same before and I'm still here to tell the tale.
