To be honest I wasn't planning on stopping using them... I'd just forgot to put one on the other day. It wasn't till late when I realised! So then I guess I was just trying so see how long I could go without one. I think it's the wrong time of the month to be trying that!!

I'm just so determined to quit for good this time. It's 16 months till my wedding and I'm adamant I will be a non smoker then. Besides, I won't have time to smoke on my wedding day lol. Every time I want a fag I picture my wedding dress being nicotine stained or a fag burn in it! It really works!! I've also bought a melon and cut it up into pieces and have a bit when I have a craving or feel snacky.

I do have a lot of support from my family, but the comments on here are greatly appreciated! I think between the wedding and packing in the fags I'm slowly driving my family nuts lol.

    Evening all

Well although the sun is shining and the sky is blue outside - it's flippin freezing - I'm so glad i no longer have to spend lots of time outside on fag breaks:D

Welcome to all the new peeps and apologies up front cos I'm rubbish with names so no offence intended if i don't mention anyone individually - have the memory function of a goldfish:rotfl:

Like others have said it gets easier and although at the moment you may feel like climbing the walls - you'll reach a point where you don't remember smoking - and that's kinda surreal.
But as Sue says - if you want to cry/scream/shout/kick things (inanimate objects only tho;) - my poor OH used to get the full force of my nicotine withdrawal cos he still smokes!)
I've gained a bit of weight too - but i lost a lot before i quit so I'm dealing with it - the quitting smoking was more important to me.

Whatever you do and however you feel - log on to this thread often - even if it's just to moan or vent - no one will mind - we've all done it and it really does help to bash your feelings out on the keyboard and to see them in print.

Above all - tell yourself well done for every day that you don't smoke, or for every day that you smoke less. These are the days that prove you can do it & that you are strong & will beat the nicotine.

Tons of good wishes to all the new quitters

    Hugs to all
    Chrissie .xx

I had this really badly too. I was moody and depressed, felt I had lost my constant companion in life. How would I fill the hours? I looked at a couple of the links in Sue's first post and one explained how stopping smoking was like a bereavement and you go through all the emotions.

I don't think there's a fast track through it but please understand that 'this too shall pass' and you will come out the other side feeling normal again.

Excellently put, Money maker and that's exactly how it is - the feeling of grief!! Just as I put about in the PMs, Sal and RainbowDreamer. Please read through the PMs as there really are some useful tips of why you're feeling as you do ~ and what to do!

True words also Money maker, there are no fast tracks to quitting, we all need to go through the harder times first, but times like that help toughen you, they also help you appreciate the good times after quitting, with other things in life too!

Having said that, you can all help yourselves so much more IF you keep busy and that's what you did today, Salogo! Regardless of the patch, you got yourself out and did fun things, things that help you know there is more to life than blasted fags!!!! :j As JD (thank the Lord she's back!!!!) also pointed out (you too!) you treated yourself...and so you should after all that time! :grinheart

    hello Sue-uu ( wavey wave )

I am delighted to see a brand new thread and wanted to share that, despite my absence on the old one in recent times , i am still very much quit :j:j and plan to blummin stay that way :D

to all those thinking of stopping you have truly found a fine place to be , the advice and support from both recent and long term quitters is inspirational

we all have been there and know how hard it can be, dont feel like you are giving up , but gaining so much more

and if you wobble never stop giving it a go , you will get there . take each hour , day at a time and importantly reward yourself for saying NO to old nic

for me ts not been the easiest ride , i had given up for 9 months then started again ,(theres always an excuse eh ;) )

but this time i am determined I am not going to put myself through the wave of cravings and plannning my life around when and where i can smoke ever again

free yourself ...you know you are worth it

    JD xx

Hi there JD :hello: I am so thrilled to see you back - SMOKE-FREE too!!!!! :T:T:T I didn't know what to think about you, but I can so easily understand your feelings re the old'n! :(

I quoted the whole of your post as you've put such vital advice there, just like Money maker's post.

Brilliant to have you back, JD, truly it is and
Many, many congratulations on over 6 months!!!!!

    Sue xx
very well done :T its so good to have something to show for that money that would of literally been up in smoke

great too that you recognised a potential trigger and did something about it rather than give in to nic knocking on your door

    JD xx

I couldn't agree more with what JD's said above folks, please take heed and do something good rather than risk going back to your old way! No matter what you do, it's making you think about different things, and the more fun you make it, the better for you it will be ~ and your loved ones! Get out old photo albums or ones on the PC and really put your heart into, not just the people, but the places, holidays enjoyed and so forth...before you know it, it's another hour you've got through without a ciggie!!!

To all those using the thread and to all those luring
: You're worth so very much more than worrying about those horrible little things, enjoy living now, there's so much more life to look forward to now/when you've said goodbye to the nasties!!! :grinheart

Well done to all you quitters on the forum. I gave up over £14,000 ago now and even all this time later (7 years) I sometimes sit down and think "time for a ciggie" - that's how the habit lurks in your subconsciousness. It soon passes and eventually you'll stop seeing the blighters as your chums!

Sal, you're family may think your nuts, (we don't know you as well as they do :p) but I bet they are so terribly proud of you as it takes real guts to quit, but you are!

With regards to the first quote; anything you think might help you, go head and give it a try. Your idea is spot on as you really do cherish it. Well done too with the melon, that, or anything similar, is perfect for when a craving hits......

......you taking note RainbowDreamer?? :) How are you doing?

Good to see you over here, Chrissie!!!!! :j Peace at last eh! :) Sorry to hear of the cold up there, we've a friend near York who says it's bitter, lets hope flaming June has more to offer. Any luck with the house?

So...a goldfish who made life h!ll for poor hubby, I'll need to think about that, but an image is getting closer! :D

Some wonderful advice there Chrissie. Not long til that 6 month date!!! :grinheart

    Living proof
, you do indeed live up to your name. ;) Thank you so very much indeed for dropping by to tell us how it's been for you and how, even now, you get those those fleeting thoughts every so often. I think it serves to help keep us on our toes even more, though must admit that after 13 + years they have now gone for me! I haven't had any of those 'seconds' for ages. Congratulations and very well done to you on quitting and staying that way, many thanks indeed. :)

    Sue x

Please folk, do take note as it'll help you all so very much. Remember, the advice is from real people, those who have been through every feeling you're going through; we've experienced it all - that's why we also know that you can and will beat these evil things. s0, be patient with yourselves and always stay determined and strong. :)

Sue can I just check if you have asked forum team to close the other thread? Its very unusual to have 2 on the same subject. I just assumed you had the last thread closed before you opened this one but it seems to be still going strong. Lets not get even more of a split eh all of this should be in one thread. (Post copied to both of the quitting smoking threads) Sorry if you have had permission and they haven't closed it yet btw.

Oh yes , it's got a tad confusing now as who is "allowed" to post on which thread.
If you want to have a read the other thread is called "The giving up smoking thread part 3".

    Hi Team Quit.

Wowsers, this new thread is off to a flyer. Good to see some old heads going strong, even better to have more people on board in their quest to quit.

As the post title says, I am well past the magic year mark and going strong. Not a moment too soon either as I now have more serious issues to contend with.

Smoking is definatley something I can do without.

As always, I don't post much will will be around to absorb the goings on and offer a bit of help here and there.

Congrats to the long termers for sticking it out and good luck to the newbies willing to start their journeys.

    Daz.

    shadydaz thats fantastic :T:T
i remember you starting out in during my battle to stay quit , great feeling i would imagine being past the 12 month mark

canna wait for my 12 month mark , but taking each day at a time and thankfull another goes by without the urges to puff away

how fags can control every aspect of your life what you do, where you do it , how ytou can eeeek out the pennies ( £'s ) so you can afford it , it goes on and on and never possitive as we are led to believe cigarettes cause so much grief but boy o boy can be a battle to part company with them

wish everyone on their journey to freedom well

    JD xx
