hi all a brief overview of my dealings with co-op bank so far
letter sent askin for charges totalling 4k (interest included) sent 6th june
follow up phone call 18th june bank stated letter was received 14th june
further phone call 6th july was more forthright with my demands and stated if hear nothing within a week will begin court proceedings
recieved letter this am ( dated 10th july ) stating that someone will be in touch within four weeks

is this the bog standard response from all banks? does the 4 weeks they ask for begin from the date 10th july or the date that i requested my charges be repaid which was 6th june?

i am begining to get very frustrated with this process and would like some info from more experienced people as to what to do next !!

i think they are stalling and want to send a letter requesting payment or court proceedings will commence

    what do u think?

I think they're getting busier and busier - if you look back at the beginning of this thread, people were getting letters saying that the bank needed a week to look into the matter, then it went to two weeks, now it's four (and like I said above, I've just had the second one of them!). And it does also sound as though your letter got forgotten about for some reason - my replies from them have all been very prompt.

A couple of weeks ago, I would have said, give them 4 weeks, see if they pay up (as they seemed to have been doing), but now - and as they've already had a month! - yep, I'd send the LBA.

 ho hum just spoke to a helen at co-op bank re charges and have requested a full response to my claim within 7 days as the co-op have only contacted me once since 6th june otherwise i will be starting court procedings. she put me on hold ( or she thought she did ) and i heard her say to someone in close vicinity " this guys account has been looked at by team 560 and they havent done anything yet "

so if anyone needs any further proof that they are just treating us with contempt then there you have it

personally i hope it goes to court am right in the mood for them now !!

Has anyone received their money back recently from the Co-op? After getting the second "we need another 4 weeks" letter, I sent the LBA, and the 14 days will be up this Friday. I'm checking my bank account online obsessively! And worrying as all the other Co-op stories I've read seemed hassle-free, so I was hoping they'd just pay up quickly. (Could really do with it sooner rather than later this week too!)

I claimed from the Co-op In May 2006 and was paid the full amount (£410) within 6 weeks. It was paid straight into my account with them.

I am now wondering whether to do another claim against them. they are still charging me £25 and £35 going overdrawn and it adds up to another £475 in the last 12 months!

Can I claim a 2nd time against the same bank?
  • I'm pretty happy with the CO-OP bank in general, their ethical stance and all that, but i have bank charges that i want to try and claim for, which of these are claimable...? (All relate to going overdrawn for very small amounts of time).
    SERVICE CHARGES
    DAILY EXCESS CHARGE
    DEBIT INTEREST.
    Any feedback greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Both the first two should be claimable but not interest.

The coop paid back my £2000 without any threat of court action and i received a very polite letter from them explaining the refund was an act of goodwill on their part on this occasion only. T hey will not pay back debit interest. good luck :rotfl:

They paid me back the 700odd quid I'd claimed yesterday :) Was very glad to have it before I heard the news last night! Haven't had a letter or anything, but I guess the postal strike doesn't help.
