9 points , a speed awareness course ..now a fine

Hi all,

I'd like some advice please.

It's not about me ( honest)

If someone has 9 points for speeding, all in one bad month in 2007, and then went on a speed awareness course last year and now has got another notice of intention to prosecute through the post for doing 61 in a 50mph ( east lancs road, very poor signage ) then would that mean a ban or 12 points?

When you have been on a course do you get 6 points after that if you are caught again or 3? ( 6 is what I've been told, not sure if it's true )

Sorry, I have searched but can't find any info on my questions.

Points count towards a ban for 3 years from the date of the offence. They can be completely removed from your licence after 4 years.

So your friend's 9 points have long since expired and they currently have a clean licence.

You wont get 6 points for a second speeding offence after doing a speed awareness course.

All the 2007 points have now expired, so you start afresh with no points.

Just checked for sure yes date of offence was 2 x August and 1 x September 2007 so they have gone now.

That has put my mind at rest thank you both.

one more question.. is he likely to get 3 or more points with it being a 61 in a 50 zone?

It'll be a fixed penalty - 3 points and £60 stolen from his wallet.

hardly stolen. 61 in a 50 means a speedo registering up near 70

Iris, I mean Iris' friend needs to mind the lead boots!

    5t.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

I'm a bit puzzled that he got nine points for speeding in 2007, but didn't go on a speed awareness course until 2011. Was there another offence which produced the speed awareness course?

Someone could refuse the fixed penalty and try and defend this in court. If it really is very poor signage, as you say, you could say you thought national speed limits applied and were driving at 60mph. However, the cost for the solcititor to defend this would cost more then the FPN so you are really only doing it to prevent the points.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Yes David, another one I can't really remember much about. He didn't get points, he got the course offer, which he attended after booking far ahead in advance.

Thank you. I did say this to him. I suggest going back and taking pictures.

It's not really worth doing IMO and our lives are stressful as it is. I do know the rd in question and I agree it goes up and down from 60 to 50 constantly so you don't know where you are. I guess the best thing to do is stay at 50 in that case.
