Phoning home was not setting the clock correctly.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

This server should be robust, I have borrowed some web space on somones server. :j
Kevin, it looks to be a fantastic program, many thanks for taking the time to write it. I've just got one problem, I can't get it to talk to my modem (external US Robotics 56k). Selected 'COM1' in the config sheet, but nothing. The modem itself works OK when sent a standard 'Dial Up' command from XP. What am I overlooking ?0 -
Just wanted to post a quick thanks to kevinlawry for the work he has done, and also that this whole new method of programming the dialler REALLY needs a new thread to publicise it a bit more!
cheers

Yep !Le73Uq86Uv wrote: »Do a test, connect it direct to the Orchid but just use computer to dial a real phone number, maybe your mobile to test it all works.
For a dialer type "dialer" in the windows run box.
Yep, done that, and it works. It's just that the Excel sheet cannot 'drive' the modem0 -
I think the server's down yet again. I have emailed Orchid reporting that (but they may not pick that up until Monday).
CW Client users - now might be a good time to take screen prints of your program.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Yep, as I stated originally, COM10 -
Hi,
I'm going to ask a slightly rude but necessary question, is the modem actually on COM1, as far as windows is concerned - I have seen (admittedly not often) cases where the physical COM1 is seen by Windows as COM3
Secondly - check that there are no extra spaces on the spreadsheet where you typed COM1 - it is quite picky, COM must be in capitals, followed by the numeric part with no spaces before or after, I know I could have programmed those checks in, but it is not a value likely to be changed often & I wanted to help people with this as soon as I could.
Thirdly, make sure nothing else is trying to access the modem - windows treats them on a first come first served basis - although you _should_ get an error message in that case
If there are any messages, let me know what is said, it may point the way
more intricately, if you go to windows control panel, Phone & modem options, select the modems tab, select your modem, click properties, Diagnostic tab, tick append to log, then OK - run the program & try to set the time - then go back to modem properties, diagnostic tab, and click 'view log'
Copy the contents of the log file & PM them to me & I will take a look to see if they give any clues (do this after you have checked the other things, I will be evaluating the results on that basis)
I have to admit, I have never used these routines on a modem numbered less than 3 - just a quirk of the environments I have worked in that physical serial ports have never been used, there should be no problem but I do not currently have a way to confirm that.0
