• Hi,

To be able to see\use Caller Display & follow your '6 steps to reducing cost' do I have to purchase the http://www.orchid-telecom.com/Diallers/v4+.htm for the Caller display to work ?

I presume it will not work with the V4, is this correct ?

The V4+ is what Orchid advise using (and the V4+ is what I've recently installed for my Mother who uses Caller Display).

I have not tried getting Caller Display on a standard V4. Is there anyone reading this who has?

EDIT 11:09am - see HERE.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. I think it's more for cable customers, I am sure the OH has unpluged my Orchid V4+ and caller display still worked. It would then be the same as a V4 with no power supply.

Maybe cable has less voltage on the lines they use being fibre, but that is a guess.

Just tested a v4+ with no power and caller display was OK.

It was unpluged and may have been for ages.

• Help needed please. A V4 dialler and phone with inclusive lcr arrived today (my day off) so i tried to connect them asap. However nether seem to want to 'force home' i.e. the red light flashed for only 12 seconds or so. Orchid's line was busy when i rang, using 18185 so i rang work on the ordinary line (sky freetime) connected through the V4 and was told i was ringing my own number, without the dialler i got through. I had asked for both diallers to be pre programmed with the Heinz program and Orchid said this had been done. I tried to 'force home' later but the phone connected through the V4 sounded as if it was on a party line. A BT line check was clear so i would be grateful for any advice. Thanks in anticipation.

Welcome to the MSE forums mickee.

The V4s are un-programmed until they successfully call home, dump your CLI on the server and pick up the program you specified.

The first force home dials an 0845 number but that will change to the standard 01536 number thereafter.

I'd suggest a complete reset of the diallers (no, it's not as difficult or drastic as it sounds - it takes 2 minutes maximum for each). The first procedure will change the force home number to 01536 207810 which (I've just checked) is currently working normally and is not engaged.

The five procedures are:

Lift Handset & dial
**# 0000 * 01536207810 * 1
Replace handset

Lift Handset & dial
**# 0000 * 1 * 8
Replace handset

Lift Handset & dial
**# 0000 * 0 * *
Replace handset

Lift Handset & dial
**# 0000 * 0 * 7
Replace handset

Finally Lift Handset & dial ***12#4567890*3 (this is the 'Force Home' procedure)
Replace handset

The red LED on the V4 should now flash for at least 60 seconds (it's usually nearer to 2 minutes). If it stops after 20 seconds or so, the Force Home has failed.

• Thanks for the reply Heinz. I tried that twice but the longest the red light flashed for was around 12 seconds. If i try to ring out (with the V4 plugged in) the line drops after the dialling tone has ended. Could it be a duff dialler?
p.s. tried to ring out again and got a recorded announcement telling me i was connected to my own line and that line testing was starting - this rang me back to say the test was ok. I'm confused.

That sounds like what happens when you dial 17070.

Anyway, if you haven't succeeded with a force home, your V4 has no program installed.

If the reset procedures in my earlier post doesn't work, your only option is to phone Orchid during working hours.

• Hi,

Has anyone managed to get the CWClient app to install on Vista 64? I can't get it to install even in XP/2K/98 compatibility mode.

Also, FYI support@orchid-electronics.com appears to be a broken link on their website. I have sent an email to
