Welcome to the MSE forums bright_15.

Yes, Primus Saver Option 2 is completely free. It looks like you signed up to Primus Freetalk Plus 2 via the Uswitch website and didn't know the trick for making sure Primus Saver Option 2 CPS was offered (or, perhaps, were tempted by the £5/month 'loyalty' bonus which effectively made the £2.99 monthly cost a £2.01/month profit).

I don't know how long Primus Saver Option 2 has existed though - I started on it in January 2006.

When your (12 month?) period on Primus Freetalk is over, you should simply be able to phone up and change to Primus Saver Option 2. Others have done so without difficulty.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Since the clocks went back don't forget to force home your diallers to reset the time.

Or do it manually:

To manually reset your dialler's clock, lift the handset and dial the following:
* * # 0 0 0 0 * hh mm DOW dd mm yy * 2

N.B. For the DOW (Day Of Week), Monday = 1, Tuesday = 2 and so on.

So, for Tuesday 30.10.07 at 12:30 the string would be:

* * # 0 0 0 0 *1 2 3 0 2 3 0 1 0 0 7 * 2 (then hangup).
• Okay so I've decided to get in on the act and bought a couple of these diallers (one for me, one for me mam).

So I need to register with Orchid to get a CW Client account?

Anyone know how long this takes as I emailed yesterday morning and have heard nowt back, the email I used was: support@orchid-electronics.com

Ta.

Hi

I've been having quite big bills through using divert to mobiles recently so after looking on here i decided to get a Orchid V4. I'm on BT together option 1 and i've been using 18866 for a few years.

I followed your 6 point guide and signed up to 18185 and Primus Saver Option 2/Penny Mobile 2 and ordered the V4 dialler and asked for the Heinz set up to be installed.

Will this set up route my diverted calls through Primus or 18185?. I've read all i can see on it but i'm now a bit confused and reading the same things over trying to clarify that Primus will forward my diverts even though it's set to use 18185 for daytime calls.

Couple of quick questions :A

As Primus takes a few days to become active is it best to leave the V4 off until then?

I notice a dc power socket on the side of the V4 and wondered if i should power it and why? :grin:

Thanks :beer:

(1) Using BT's Call Divert Calling Feature will send the diverted part of the call 'out' via your default calls provider (i.e. BT at the moment but Primus/Penny Mobile when that goes live). The programming of the Orchid has no effect on that because the *21*07xxxXXXXXX# or *61*07xxxXXXXXX# or *67*07xxxXXXXXX# procedure programs the BT exchange to perform the divert there rather than the call 'tromboning' via your house..

(2) No. Plug it in and force it to call home as soon as you receive it. Starting to use 18185 automatically for your peak UK 01/02/03, mobile and international calls will save you money immediately.

(3) It sounds like you've been sent an Orchid V4 Plus instead of the basic V4. The DC socket is for a secondary power supply which is a backup for the BT line voltage. Unless you unplug the Orchid from the telephone socket or the BT line voltage fails (unlikely), there's no need to use it.

BTW, you can check if Primus Saver Option 2 CPS service is active by using BT's Charge Advice service:

Lift handset and dial *411# and listen for message. Replace handset.

Make a UK 01/02/03 call (preferably evening or weekend so, if you're still on BT, it'll only cost 4½p). If the exchange automatically calls you back immediately after the call with the approx cost of the call, you're still on BT. If there's no immediate call back, the call has gone (free) over Primus.

You can switch off BT Charge Advice with #411#

There is no need to use the 1280 prefix when switching Charge Advice on or off (even after Primus has gone live).

• Think I'm missing something here, just signed up for a 18185 account ,Primus 2 with the Penny Mobile 2 add-on and also have Heinz's programme setup. Do you have to choose how you want moble calls routed or what since they seem to go to 18185 and I can't see the benefit of the Penny Mobile add-on.
Great stuff by the way Heinz!
