A wireless router is neater and safer (provided that you encrypt it).

    can be.
but you can also just use its usb connection to say dads puter, and mum can access the printer that way.

The quote wasn't edited, I said encrypted 3 times, and you continued to argue the point.

You even quoted it in your own response.

Take the wireless out of the equation, broadband with a router is safer than broadband without.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Now, now everyone's entitled to their opinion and I wouldn't like to think that me asking for help causes and disagreements.

Am I correct in thinking that the HP OP7210 has?
If it's this printer, then yes - it has a wired Ethernet port. Connect it to the router with Ethernet cable or to a wireless print server (a small box which then connects wirelessly to the router). If you go with latter make sure it's compatible with the printer.

It has to be connected to the main computer or the router, isn't that correct? I also have the HP OP7210 which is wired to my router and I can therefore print from my laptop using it.

    ah correct at last.
    :)

any router with a HW firewall is safer, than a no router connection to the net.
