  • What's everyone doing about Advent calenders this year? I'm tempted to do something different, as they seem pretty expensive this year!

As this is the first year that my DS will not be getting a visit from Santa (he's said he knows that there is no Santa), I have splashed out a bit and bought him an advent calender from Thorntons, which has his name iced on it. He usually gets one from Tesco.

He also has a garland of little stockings (which just about fit a hot wheels car) which I will also be putting his favourite chocolates (Turkish Delight, Crunchies, Terry's Chocolate orange bars) into.

  • Hi all,

My Christmas spirit has been crushed a little today. DH and I were discussing at the weekend it being just us and the kids this xmas for dinner. Mum and step dad have been round for the last 4 years without fail and it was never meant to be apermanent fixture. I spoke to mum about it today and although she said it was fine and she understood, I still feel 'funny' about it. We have had a very busy year this year and feel that we would like to just play to our own tune this year and not have to entertain on xmas day. I told her that they are more than welcome to visit, but there will be no lunch. Gulp! Am I being over sensitive as DS has been ill and i'm knackered?

Also, really struggling to find a present for my dad. He's in his 60s and doesn't have any major interest, plus he's a man....how much harder can it be? So far, he has a calendar of the kids throughout the year from vistaprint, which is kind of a tradition. Help please!
  • Pinknfluffy28 As hard as it seems at the time I would suggest that you stick by your guns. You are right in this situation and your oh is being used, but as someone else has said/suggested you don't know what they are being fed by his ex.
No divorce with children is easy, I am in that boat. My ex had money to "buy" the kids and they all got what they wanted. I only bought them what I could afford and had to say no at times. I never bad mouthed my ex (however hard that was and believe me it was very difficult at times) However, now I would say they all understand and know just how they have been used. Not nice for them to learn but I did stick to my principles and I would say to you to do the same. Eventually they will learn that love cannot be bought.

On a lighter note I am watching Yankee candles on abc - how sad but am Sooooo tempted. But they seem so dear. Do the fragrances last all the way through burning?

we have the lego city advent canlender this year but I'd like to get a non-chocolaate traditional one too.

EEEK just done DS1 and 2 their PNP videos. They are fab this year. A naughty one for DS1 (who keep having "accidents" after being toilet trained over a year - GRRRRRRRRR) and a "must try harder" for DS2.

Ben "bouncy" Elf will report back to santa on the 15/16th december (before going to see him on the 17th) and he will send them a good boy video for trying harder.

I LOVE this book - but not at £16.99 each - that's milking parents christmas spirit a bit tooo much IMO.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:
  • Big Maggie bear hugs to all that need them ( I have it on good authority that my hugs are 1st class :) )

I would like to talk about Christmas nights out, have you got your outfit? Did you splash or save? Where are you going?
We're going to the Marroitt again this year (Marroitt is code word for EXPENSIVE) I got my dress down to £14 from £18 because there's a tiny hole & make up on it. My gran bought me some lovely shoes, which are part of my Christmas. Im going to use a bag I got for a wedding, also still have false lashes i got for free in Boots beauty 3 for 2, SO just need some jewellery, put on my Palmers gradual tan and make up a hair do and I am all sorted. Also, I was in Asda a few weeks ago, my gift card wasnt working on the till and the young man serving me was extremely rude, making out that the card was a knock off and i was some kind of shop lifter!!! The manager came over to see what was happening, i told her what he said and the woman behind me backed me up. She apologised and said she would write a report and i should make a complaint. So I did and received a £20 @sda gift card (!) so im going to use that to purchase some vodka to sneak in :) im sorry but £8 for a single measure of vodka and mini can of coke is a JOKE!!! I spent £40 on soft drinks alone last year!!
