Well I have spent the morning making Gingerbread with the girls. Just need to make them look more Christmassy now :-)

They should be nice to eat later while we watch the polar express. I hope it's as good as everyone says. What age range do you think it's suitable for?

I would say it is suitable for all ages. I watched it this morning with my 5 year old ds and 2 year old dd. I enjoyed it as much as them. :)
    Savings Account - £0.00 :(

    Weight Loss - 33lbs lost 9lbs to go :)

That's great as mine are 5 and 3. I just didn't want anything to spoil the thought of Santa! ;)

  • Nanamia-Thankyou, made me tear up. (so emotional argh!) You too are a lovely caring person and this thread would not be the same without you. xxx
    I'm in the doghouse :(

Was my friends birthday, she lives quite a way from here so gave her her present about 6 weeks ago when she was here. To her disgust, her hubby put it in the attic as he knew she would not be able to get at it before yesterday. Sent her a quick text yesterday morning as I was going out and got a response saying thank you for the present but she still had not actually opened it, was exercising restraint and would open it when hubby got back after walking the dog.

Well, to his disgust and her absolute joy, she opened a box containing 3 very large tea light holders of Santa doing various things. She is a bigger Christmas nut than all of you put together and had been told she was not to buy any more Christmas decorations! Hubby not happy that I circumvented the situation, even less happy that she had them on the window a glow last night!
Well bah humbug to him!! Hope it didnt take the shine off the fabby pressie for your friend. :D
Hi there lovelies, room for one more?

I made a vow that this Christmas was going to be done on a budget! Had my budget saved and was looking forward to a stress free (and debt free Christmas) Sadly my little Smart car has decided to break it's starter motor and am now having to pay a whopping £1k to get it back on the road :(

I had planned to mainly make most of my presents as 'thought' it would be cheaper - it isn't! I have supplies coming out of my ears, a big dent in my bank account and no finished presents :( Really need to get a move on!

Job for today is pickled onion making - I have 7lbs of the blighters to prepare!
Oh no how gutting. :( I can relate to the panicky feeling, I have lots of have finished hampers and no money to continue! *panic* Im sure you will manage to get it all done and bought, we are super christmas nuts after all! :D

Going to walk to Lidl soon too hopefully get some half price choc! My 16 yr old sister is here and thinks Im mad walking all the way up there for it and also last night said she doesnt really like christmas films. WHAT!!!!??? BUT she did say 'Im still getting a stocking right?' :rotfl:I'll train her yet. :D

wow OMO some seriously amazing makes there! Wish I was creative enough to make the cards / boxes from scratch!

OH is just away out on a few errands so gives me about 30 mins to wrap as many presents as I can in the meantime and then going to make a few more chocolate stirrers since the trial batch went down a storm at work!

Finally found wrapping paper I like yesterday so one less stress :D And amazon stuff has started arriving, just one more to go and the rest really is stocking fillers for OH, the cat and a few xmas decorations since we changed our living room this year so new stuff now needs to match!

Hope you're all having a great Sunday :)
Life is what you make it.
  • i've got pages and pages to catch on where i was busy yesterday.. sorry i've missed anything important...

But omg last night was amazing! The Drifters were brilliant and im so very proud of my dd3, she certainly gave it her all! She bought home a signed cd and also got their autographs in her book.. She said its something she'll always remember and i certainly won't forget seeing her strutting her stuff while singing jingle bells lol

Took my sister around the shops before we went for dinner etc and got the last onesie i needed to get (not a penguin one as they had sold out a dalmation one instead) BUT they had some christmas tree ones etc and lots of other different kinds of ones too.. they also had a rail of halloween type onesies (skeleton, bats) which i assume was going to be reduced.

My sister was in awe of the 99p shop.. she lives in Honiton in devon which is mostly antiques and estate agents lol She got the xmas plates and cups etc. She also took on her elf and all the bits i collected so waiting to hear what she thinks of those!

CHRISTMAS REALLY IS NEARLY HERE!!! WOOOHOOOOO

*walks off singing jingle bells, jingle bells*
    Totally debt free wohooo 2014
    Christmas 2014
    Presents bought **** rrp **** Saved ****
    *SAVE*SAVE*SAVE*
  • God bless the 99p store! :)

Thank you very much for the warm welcome :)

Weeclick chocolate stirrers are on my list to make - but I'm planning these a version with marshmallows on. I have it on my pinterest Christmas DIY gift board but can't post the link as I'm a newbie :(

I'm not sure how long they will keep though - really hope I don't end up rushing around like a loon to close to Christmas with all these perishable pressies to make!

Pickled onions are finally peeled! Lost 2lbs in the topping/tailing and peeling process (may have been a bit over-zealous) am just waiting for the brine to cool and then they will be dunked!

Very longtime lurker coming out of the Christmas Closet here - had to when I saw this post!! Try E*ay jenjenn - the Christmas Pickle is actually a traditional German ornament - they hang little (and big!) glass ones on trees and children have to find them!

Anyway, I have read this from page one but never really joined in - I'm noted for my Christmas obsession, not sure where it comes from, though my mum and dad always tried to give us a nice Christmas, in spite of how lousy they were at parenting the rest of the year! My dad died a few years ago and I miss him terribly, and my mum has early onset dementia and this will be the second Christmas we've left her to spend it at home - she's in a care home with just a few other ladies and they all have Christmas dinner together. Unfortunately she doesn't know us anymore and gets very unsettled if we try to get her to leave the house. She seems happy though and that's the most important thing. So there's just me and my sister now and our own little families so we try to make it special for each other.

My dad used to start buying Christmas cake and mince pies as soon as they appeared in the shops joking that he had to 'test' as many as possible! For pretty much all of December, he would come in from work (he worked away during the week, only home for weekends) and his first words would be "Has he been yet?" (in reference to Santa!) I believed in Santa for so long because of my parents - one of the things they did to make it seem more real was wrap all of my presents 'from' Santa in that really cheap, thin wrapping paper and the presents from them in different stuff. Not only was this quite MSE of them, they told us it was because Santa had to use cheaper paper because he had so many presents to give. It might not work on kids now but this was an utterly convincing argument for me at that age!! My mum used to make us stockings and would always sit and watch us unwrap anything, even the tiny little things she'd wrapped, as she would love to see our reactions. I remember doing Christmas activities with her, simple things like colouring in, and without fail, she'd hang whatever decorations we made on the tree - however awful they were!

Anyway, it might be silly but I just wanted to share this with you all because so many of you seem to be going to lots of effort to make Christmas special for your own children and I wanted to let you know how important this is. It's the memories I have of my parents that make me love Christmas. It's not the big presents that matter or how much money you spend, but rather the tiny details and traditions that will stay with your children forever.

how lovely what nice christmas' you must have had, excactly most of us on here have our traditions its not about the money its about family, friends and spending time with the people you love most. i try and make gifts more personal even by just making my own tags i feel it makes them more special

  • Hello fellow Christmas fans!

My Christmas spirit has been sky high the past few days. Between two shopping trips and all the Christmas adverts on tv, it really is starting to look a lot like Christmas.

Managed to get the Christmas iPhone covers from poundland, also got the Christmas pudding and Santa bin bags. My friend just shook her head as I danced about with excitement at finding them.

I'm on the look out for Christmas moulds to make Chocs with. I've checked b&m, home bargains, wilkinsons, poundland but had no luck. Hoping I'll find some eventually!

Going to make up my retro sweetie boxes today and print the labels for my snowman soup, pots of gold and reindeer/snowman poop. If I can work out how to I will post pics later :)
