what's wrong with Lucas? it's lovely - is your MIL somebody who only likes very traditional names? some people are like that, but he's your baby! :)

She said when I first got pregnant that she hoped we didn't choose a biblical name (her other 2 grandchildren from hubbys brother are names from the bible but in my opinion not obviously so like Noah or Jesus LOL) I think that's why she didn't like Lucas. And then when I told my friend that he would most likely be shortened to Luke she said ........ :rotfl: Luke is NOT a nickname for Lucas  we had a full blown debate about it (both stubborn mules) and it just completely ruined it for me.
I think if people had made simple passing comments it wouldn't be so bad but when they go into such huge debate about it it really gets under your skin.

I know that whatever we do choose now will be kept secret until he pops out and then I will send out a text from hospital and get hubby to phone immediate family so i don't have to hear their reactions LOL ;)

I think one of the things I like about Franklin is that there are 3 versions so he can use his full name which is i think suitable for all ages or shorten it to what he prefers, he may well be stubborn like his daddy and spend his entire life telling everyone "it's rude to shorten my name without my permission" which is apparently what hubby would tell people when he was little! :T

It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about the name you have chosen, as long as it isn't a name which will lead to awful teasing. We saw the trouble SIL had when she said her third was going to be named Jonah - grandparents were up in arms, the name was unlucky, blah blah blah. It was none of their business and they should have kept quiet whatever they thought. In the end he was called Caleb, and obviously now we can't imagine him being called anything else, but it upset SIL and made us determined to keep our names secret.

All through my pregnancy my DD was going to be Grace, the minute I saw her at 8lb 2oz I thought there is nothing graceful there! She is now a petite 23 year old Faith
  • Muddy puddles have more things back in stock. The savers are great. As are the socks and gloves. Great stocking fillers

  • Grace is lovely and so is Faith! I just don't get why some people think they can be so rude - can't help thinking 'if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all!'

clearly I don't get it from my mother - years of her saying stuff that upsets me makes me do the opposite!

my DS is Luca, which really suits him, we love it and he likes it too - the first thing my mother said was 'like Filthy Lucre?!' which apparantly means 'dirty money' I said no not Lucre - Luca! of course she loves his name and him to bits, but they just don't think before they let the handbrake off their mouths do they?!

I just hate rudeness and people who think they can say what they like and then just shrug it off with 'just being honest' when they upset people - no you're not you are being bloody rude!

Well my eldest DS is Destiny Marita , so I could hardly chose something like Janet for the second, so Faith it was.

BTW I let my older four children chose my youngest DS's names so he is George Henry Angel Sid!

Back to Christmas and I am burning my christmas rose candle (smells like Turkish delight) and playing Elvis Christmas album

Chirpychick we constantly changed our minds about baby names, and both times didn't actually make up our minds (between a very short shortlist) until we had met the baby. (This often works to the woman's advantage as she has just done all the work and deserves to have her first choice, LOL!)

:rotfl: I did that with my daughter. The name my ex picked meant 'the ugly one' but I had said as I chose name for ds he could chose for her. But when the midwife asked if we had a name, I jumped in with my choice. No man is going to argue at that point. I then found I had named her ' the reborn ugly one' .
ps; my hubby bumped into his old boss (loathed her, she was vile) after DS was born and she had seen the announcement in the paper, she actually saw fit to say 'I don't like it' about his name!! how ill mannered can you get! thankfully he smiled and said 'we all do, and that's a little more important to us than anything you might think' ...

My Mum came straight and said she didn't like DDs name. It was so hurtful. I still remind her of it now when people say what a pretty name Renee is.

I changed ds' name after he was born. I named him Devon. But my Dad ( who had had a stroke) got confused and told everyone his name was Cornwall.:rotfl:
I was a so worried it would stick,I changed it completely !
  • Renee is a beautiful name! as is Destiny - I always liked Angel as a name too :) I'd have liked Summer, I think it's so pretty and it's my favourite season. Devon is a lovely name too.
