LOL - unfortunately it's neither one of us could think of anything, not that we couldn't agree, if that was the case it would almost make things easier LOLMoney_maker wrote: »Thanks for that, will fill in nicely until the digital radio one starts:D
Chirpychick, we struggled with boys names. Ended up with a really traditional one (about 3 in his year at school) for the eldest, slightly more unusual for younger. Girls are easier but my DD has a more unusual name too. Why not try a few out on us?
We have considered Oscar, George and then Lucas but then decided on Levan - but EVERYONE hated it, which wouldn't have worried me so much except it got so easily mocked - backwards it spells navel and when we told people the name they would say "eleven like the number" and it became so infuriating that we just couldn't use it.
So now we are debating Franklin - Hubby is pretty much certain he loves the name, he likes shortening it to Frank which I don't mind as it's a family name, I know that I will end up calling him Frankie and using his full name when he is naughty :rotfl: or I want his full attention LOL I prefer the longer version but I am terrible for shortening names - My husband is Michael and he spent his whole life correcting people when they shortened it and gave up when I came along I call him Mike and now so do all my family :rotfl: Mine is also a long name which gets shortened. I think I like Franklin I am 99% certain but my brain just cant figure out if he is going to be mocked for it or if it is plain enough that there are no jokes about it but different enough that there wont be 10 in his class. I am more worried i think about how other people will respond to itfunny_bunny wrote: »Chirpychick, my ds1 Oliver was named spud for the 1st week as we couldn't decide on a name. I wanted name him Rhys until I was 36wks then changed my mind!
Someone will always not like the name you pick, so just go for a name that you like as really what everybody else thinks doesn't matter!
I call my hubby Spud lol and this baby has been little spud all along, the most funny thing is hubby for ages wanted to call him Edward (as in king edward spuds!!!) :rotfl:
I know there will be people who don't like it, when we told MIL we were considering Lucas her face was so annoyingI wanted to slap it, she looked like she was chewing sour lemons and it just put me right off. I know it shouldn't bother me but when people are so blatant it does.
(oh p.s middle names are 100% decided as Robert John)Everything is always better after a cup of tea0 -
Chirpychick we were lucky we had our daughter named years before she arrived and stuck with it, though we couldnt make up our minds on middle name! our surname is italian and her first name is too so it goes well, she's never got teased for having a different name although shes the only one in her school. Our son was harder, we only had 2 names we loved and are so glad we settled on what we did as it really suits him, again it's italian and hes the only one in his school, but neither of them have ever been teased - there are children with all kinds of unusual names in schools, we've had Luna, Finch, Nostradamus (really!) one kid who hates his name so much he insists on being Fred, nobody knows his real name! my neices best friend as a child was Tranquility!!
both our kids say they really like their names - thank the lord! I hate my name, I was going to change it when I was 18, I got all the forms but never got round to it - I so wish I had!
go with what you love and !!!!!! anyone else - unless it's Fifi Trixibelle or Moon Unit am sure it will be wonderful, one tip I was given was consider the name at all life stages - some nam,es would be cute for a baby but not so great for going to present a business plan to the bank amanger at 25 or as an OAP!
I like Levan! I think it's quite rude of people to laugh at a name youve chosen, some people seem to think it's ok and I dont really get that, maybe it's just me! xx0 -
I'm not a mum Chirpychick but a few of my friends actually waited till the baby was born to see which name suited how s/he looked. Don't be worried about what everyone else thinks though, it's a decision you two have to make0

ps; my hubby bumped into his old boss (loathed her, she was vile) after DS was born and she had seen the announcement in the paper, she actually saw fit to say 'I don't like it' about his name!! how ill mannered can you get! thankfully he smiled and said 'we all do, and that's a little more important to us than anything you might think' ...0

Franklin/Frankie is gorgeous! theres a fair few Archie and Alfie's around here which is cute too0

what's wrong with Lucas? it's lovely - is your MIL somebody who only likes very traditional names? some people are like that, but he's your baby!0

I actually like all the names you've listed there. If you choose a name that can't really be shortened, you tend to use another name for them. In the case of my dd, I call her chops or tiny which bear no resemblance to her proper name!
DH wanted to call DS1 Og. Should have gone with that really :rotfl:
Best way is to choose a name between you both then let everyone know after the birth. They can like it or lump it.Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'
