Oh and on a totally random note - I am an absolute addict of Pistachio ice cream but hate paying £3 a scoop at many places as no stores sell it in tubs. I even emailed Mr T begging them to stock it! Well when I went in my Mr T Extra on Friday they are now stocking it (Joe Delucci range). It tastes amazing and I feel like Christmas has come early for me!! :j It is on a limited edition so not sure how long it will stay for...I hope forever! :T

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!! Thank you for that! I adore pistachio icecream too! Will have to have a little look!!

  • Hey all, have been lurking here for weeks now having only posted once or twice.

Wanted to pop by and ask opinions on my bfs Christmas present...I have a budget of £80 and so far I have

*1 box of Lucky Charms cereal - he loves this stuff so have got him a box for his birthday and one for Christmas £5

*A treat dispenser - one of those motion activated ball ones, just the small one that can sit on the table by the sofa (he wants a big one but it wouldn't go anywhere!) £10

Going to get a big tub of millions (cola, his favourite) for in the treat dispenser. So that's £20

After that I'm stumped! He needs some new pjs but that's not really my idea of a good Christmas present.

He loves hot choc so I thought maybe this http://www.whittard.co.uk/christmas_gift_shop/christmas_gift_sets/indulgent_hot_chocolate_gift_set.htm so that's another £20

That leaves me £25 to spend. The last thing he needs is any aftershaves etc as he has collected almost every decent male fragrance - he is obsessed with having the fragrance, showergel and body spray for each. He doesn't need anything housey or diy type stuff. He plays wheelchair rugby but doesn't need anything related to that as he has all his kit, training stuff etc

For his birthday I've got him big bang theory season 5 dvd box set, a box of lucky charms and a small ice trug that I've filled with all his favourite snacks for during the dvds (frazzles crisps, toffee crisps, kit kat chunkys, buenos, twirls). Could probably do with getting him a couple more bits for that too but I have no idea!

I'm going to make a bag from some material I've got and fill it with 25 chocolate bars each with a tag that says something for us to do together as an advent calendar.

I would love to get him a new ipad but my budget doesn't stretch quite that far atm sadly :/

And ideas/inspiration would be greatfully received!

  • Was trying to think of what I could put stocking filler type things into for nephews and niece, have bought brown takeaway bags! Decorating with Christmas stamps and will tie the handles with nice ribbon. Should be quick then as if I have the bags open, all I have to do is drop one of each thing into each bag and hand over on the day I see them with their main gift. Now need to check what I have got them :o
A smile costs little but creates much :)

  • And ideas/inspiration would be greatfully received!

Could be worse! My brother told me yesterday what he would like, that it is all he needs (my brain thinking about what I have already got him!) - a kettle!!!!!!!!!!!:rotfl:

Part of me thinks it will be lovely to have some time to establish life as new parents and as hubby will be off for 2 weeks it will be lovely to give him some bonding time as he wont have paternity leave and it will be very nice but I am worried that Christmas wont feel like Christmas? That it will just seem like another day. If that makes any sense.

I wonder if there are other people on here that are just couples or small families that don't go anywhere on christmas and what they do to make it feel more christmassy?

so i was just wondering what i could do to make it "feel" more like christmas? might help others in a similar situation too.

It is just the three of us normally. I make it Christmassy by having an activity advent calendar - ours is based around the needs of a three year old but yours could be more for the grown ups and based around the needs of a newborn - baking, walks to look at the lights, wanders round Christmassy garden centres, picnic dinner under the tree, decorating the tree together, choosing a First Christmas ornament, 2am Tesco run, stuff like that... we also have special Christmas traditions surrounding food and on the 26th we have brunch/a full day of friends who come over and hang out with us. If you have local friends in the same position arrange something, maybe you could make it a cookie exchange or a secret Santa or something where you get people together.

Family is what you make it, and at Christmas especially it can be anyone you wanted to share it with.

I looked into tablets a while back and decided at that point that if i get one it would be the google nexus tablet (starting price £159) rather than an Ipad. Anyway there are rumours of an Ipad mini launching tomorrow and that would be a lot cheaper than an ipad/

I like hot chocolate style sets - Whittards one is a bit expensive (esp as it will probably come down in price if you wait nearer xmas) but lush of course. However you can probably buy the items for this individully and wrap them up for about a third of the price? That might give you more money to spend on other things? (for my childminder I am doing a hot chocolate style box with - green and black hot chocolate £2.59, Lindt truffles £3.50 on offer, duchy original shortbread £2,twining selection teas £1.89 for about 25 bags) and some Turron Durro traditional xmas sweets from spain ordered from my mate about £2.50). I could have done it a lot cheaper but I wanted these particular brands coz I like them.

How about a canvas print picture of one of his favourite photographs? Check photobox and tesco photos. They regularly have half price offers on these.

what other things does he like. I am a big advocate of hampers as you can and fill it up with tons of goodies rather cheaply. So if he is sporty you could do an action man type hamper - eg football, or james bond style etc, if he likes food you could then get food of a certain theme etc.........

Infact for his birthday it seems as if you have got him stuff to make a movie hamper. Maybe add in some pop corn and drinks that he likes, some movie watching slogan that you can print on nice card etc.

    Xmas Saver!

If it snows i wont care :rotfl: that will make it perfect and i wont need to do anything else to make it feel more special ;)

[Bchirpychick][/B] Don't worry, it WILL feel christmassy,it always does.
It is only Me,ds and dd here. Ds has asd so doesn't really do christmas, but it still feels like Christmas.
We have a late cooked breakfast (well me and dd do).
The table is always laid, and we have dinner at 3. It is the only day in the year we eat at that time. It is very quiet, but still feels like Christmas.

Going for a walk in the afternoon is nice. It feels really strange, everywhere being so quiet. It is actually a little surreal .

To be quite honest traditions just happen, you can't really make them. Silly things become traditional without you even realising.
I am sure we have traditions that I don't even think about, they are just there. (Which is why I can't think of them:rotfl:)

I do have a mince pie and a glass of Baileys every Christmas Eve. Thats one:j.

The first year will feel strange, because you will compare it to previous years, you can't help it, just try not to dwell on it. Treat it as a new beginning, and enjoy it.

I just caught the end of the new ASDA Christmas advert - a mum stuffing toys in a cupboard and the phrase 'because the best presents don't happen by magic'

Please tell me that I have either misheard or the first half of the advert was pro-santa, because the bit I saw looked like it was killing the magic of Christmas for any young children who may have seen it

I will be watching for it again....

I saw it & thought the same (although wasnt paying too much attention until the end). Reminds me of the awful littlewoods ad last year
