No way! How rude! I would speak to mother and say no we are not buying her a TV as last time we bought her something you said she wanted you had already bought it for her, plus I've finished buying for her already and last year you didn't even let them come over at Christmas. Tell her no and let mum explain it away, but do tell child it is down to mum that she isn't getting what she wants.0 -
I'm with Ameyturtle on this one. The mother sounds like a manipulative bully wo is trying to get her own back on your OH. You say you have been together 10 years and married 5 - sorry but she needs to get over herself and stop bringing the children in on her little mind games. If you DH agress with you then great but otherwise yes, ask him for extra money. Children are far more canny than we give them credit for and before you know it the other three will be saying - "well she got a telly - where's ours!!!" I do think a contribution is a good idea but make sure you tell her that her mother had no right to say what she did otherwise she could end up blaming you if she doesn't get it - hope it all works out xx0

I have two daughters 12 & very nearly 5, and 2 step daughters 15 & 11 (my eldest is from my previous relationship). My dh came back from picking step-d's up last nite & announced their mother has promised eldest her dad would get her a new tv/dvd combi for xmas. She hadnt spoke to him about it first, and although dh is very angry at her, he doesnt want to dissapoint child. However, we have already got ALL their presents! as a rule, the step-daughters get half budget of what the 2 at home get (on account of ours being their second xmas etc). Now a tv/dvd combo is gonna be at least £100, so is it wong of me to now get a few extra bits for the other 3, obviously im talking £20 0r £30 each, not £100! dh says theres no need, but i feel as though they should all be treated the same, if we have to go over budget for 1, we do it for all. The cost isnt really an issue, its more from a moral and fair-parenting point. Sorry to ramble on, and i know it might seem silly, but im getting myself in a right state over this, and dh, being male, just doesnt seem to get it!
Sorry to hear of your problem.. If there isn't a way around it couldnt you buy her a second hand one which may be more to budget then even it out with your other children?
I know a lot of people may disagree with buying second hand but you can get some which are practically new.
If not I would speak to her mom and explain that you have already sorted Christmas out this year!

I also have a nut allergy, so I might try these myself (I have just 'helped' myself!).
Oo we bought some of these in The Range today, they were £1 per net but when we checked the receipt later on they said they were 2 for £1.69. There hadn't been any mention of this on the shelf!Hobnobs are like marines0 -
pinknfluffy28... I do agree with what others have said but as your stepdaughter is 15 I assume you wont have to put up with this for much longer. You say you can afford it so I would be tempted to just buy her the tv and get extras for the others (more shopping yay!!) Is the mother just wanting you to be the bad guys? It might be worth spending abit more to avoid the agro?
She sounds very bitter (and abit mad actually after 10 years) maybe you could arrange for her to go get a check up from the neck up!Good enough club member number 140 -
Is anyone else finding that the earlier you start Christmas planning the more stuff you buy for everyone? I think I'd be more MSE if I didn't start until December, but there's no fun in that! :xmastree:
I was thinking this today as I returned to my car with yet another bag!!
But with Halloween and Bonfire Night in between plus a weekend for christmas decs, one for wrapping and card writing, one for recovering from the Xmas party, one for the food shopping there can't be that many weekends left!! And I do work full time!! :rudolf:0 -
I only allow myself one visit to the shops per week, so technically for me there's actually only 11 shopping days left till Christmas!:rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf:0
