Does anyone NOT open their presents first thing Christmas morning?
I fancy trying opening them in the evening (we don't have any kids, so it won't torture anyone toooo much to wait).
I'm not sure whether it would keep the excitement going all day by avoiding that horrible morning anti climax, or just ruin things...LalaGomay.....we always open our presents around 9 oclock in the morning but always save one for when the dinner comes round usually just after dessert...but we always have a Boxing Day opening of tree presents which is not so hectic as Xmas day..we normally have a couple each within a £10 price range. So pleased with this that I just have to share it with you all. (But I will remove the photo soon just incase eyes stumble into here!) BIG thanks to whoever wrote about it on here and put the seed in my head
I used 2 100g bars, a yorkie, a wispa, 2 small areo biscuits, 2 2 finger kit kats, 2 single drifter biscuits, a small flake, a teeny chrunchie and a teeny weeny cadbury's caramel. The hardest part was finding chocolate in decreasing size so it stacks nicely. It's not as neat and perfect as the one linked to by the OP - but this may have more 'proper' chocolate on it. The biggest expensive for me was the candy canes - £10 for the pair  but that's cause they are special chocolate flavoured ones lol.
**picture removed but if you want to see it pm me and I'll forward you the link**
pretty pretty please, sounds like summat DH would lurve!

First thing I do when I get up and come downstairs is put the tree lights and fairy lights on so its all cosy and Christmassy when everyone else comes down. This year I will light the Christmas candles so we have the lovely Christmassy aromas.
I may do tree presents this year for Christmas night, never thought of that!Even though we're grown ups (well phsically dunno about mentally) we open our stockings in bed, B goes downstairs, puts on fairy lights n kettle (like my dad/his dad did when were kids) then we open our pressies. It seems both of us had a set, traditional christmas plan that was followed every christmas day - luckily they're very similarxxlouisexx56 wrote: »My inlaws do all sorts of silly things like this, they are MY kids and I let them have the lot when they get up. Can't believe how long its taken me to catch up on all the posts. Good to see everyones keeping busy.
Have just spent a pleasant hour ripping out pages from previous years christmas magazines. Loads of ideas for things to make. Should be turning up curtains but might sew a stocking instead.:rotfl:
Now just want this years mags to come out although i'll have to hide them from hubby.:D
Have been reserving stuff at the smyths toyshop and will collect tomorrow before the 20% offer ends.
Have a bit of a dilema which some advice might be good. My brother died last year and his family decided to go away, so I invited my parents for the day. This year his family have decided to go away again. I really wanted to invite friends this year and now feel obliged to invite mum and dad instead. Problem is before Andrew died mum always went to his and we went to them boxing day. I dont want to start the routine that they always come to us. Am i uust being selfish. I don't have the room for everyone.
Sorry to go on but its been playing on my mind
Christmas magazines! I keep looking ever hopeful that they will suddenly start appearing in the shops. Never mind that christmas for us is very nearly sorted, I still love getting in the spirit, reading ideas, tips and menus.
Eljay, I really feel for your dilemma. My brother died coming up for 5 years ago and since I have never spent a christmas day with my parents-for me it would just be too hard. The decision for me is made somewhat easier by the fact that we live an hour and half away from my family, we have a cat who my parents would not want us to put in a cattery as they understand he is part of our family..and the fact that my Grandad lives 10mins away from my parents and always spends christmas with them...meaning they cant travel to us for christmas. Also, we live 20 mins away from my hubbys family so always have them to us at christmas.
Dont get me wrong, I love my parents and rest of my family to pieces, and I still grieve for my brother every day, but for me, a self confessed christmas nut, I know christmas would be relegated to a 'misery affair' because they would mourn my brother all day....and I still love getting ready the night before, laying all my clothes out that im going to wear, putting all the presents under the tree, ripping open our presents first thing, making a gorgeous breakfast etc... and I couldnt do that if I was with my parents.
No one can give you an answer but you, you have to do whats right for you and your family. And if thats not having your parents over on christmas day, then thats fine, they will understand, maybe not right now, but they will. Andif you decide not to invite them for christmas, you still have the tradition of going to them for boxing day, right?
Hope you can make that decision thats right for you...all of you...not just your parents.
Good luck! x0 -
Don't know if it's the cheapest but I found the customer services at justminiatures.co.uk excellent. I've ordered miniature bottles of everyone's favourite tipples for my Christmas Crackers from there. My FIL doesn't drink particularly but will join in on holiday so I wanted a miniature bottle of ouzo. Justminiatures didn't have any in stock and emailed me a few alternative suggestions. In the end though I didn't replace it, they refunded that part of my order and I placed another order with drinksupermarket.com0
