Does anyone NOT open their presents first thing Christmas morning?

I fancy trying opening them in the evening (we don't have any kids, so it won't torture anyone toooo much to wait).

I'm not sure whether it would keep the excitement going all day by avoiding that horrible morning anti climax, or just ruin things...

the hubby and i's presents are opened after lunch, but thats only because weve got 3 kids so are busy with them! last year dh remembered ours at 3.30pm . we did discuss opening them on xmas eve instead, but it wouldnt be right for me!

So pleased with this that I just have to share it with you all. (But I will remove the photo soon just incase eyes stumble into here!) BIG thanks to whoever wrote about it on here and put the seed in my head :D

I used 2 100g bars, a yorkie, a wispa, 2 small areo biscuits, 2 2 finger kit kats, 2 single drifter biscuits, a small flake, a teeny chrunchie and a teeny weeny cadbury's caramel. The hardest part was finding chocolate in decreasing size so it stacks nicely. It's not as neat and perfect as the one linked to by the OP - but this may have more 'proper' chocolate on it. The biggest expensive for me was the candy canes - £10 for the pair  but that's cause they are special chocolate flavoured ones lol.

  • Can't believe how long its taken me to catch up on all the posts. Good to see everyones keeping busy.
Have just spent a pleasant hour ripping out pages from previous years christmas magazines. Loads of ideas for things to make. Should be turning up curtains but might sew a stocking instead.:rotfl:

Now just want this years mags to come out although i'll have to hide them from hubby.:D

Have been reserving stuff at the smyths toyshop and will collect tomorrow before the 20% offer ends.

Have a bit of a dilema which some advice might be good. My brother died last year and his family decided to go away, so I invited my parents for the day. This year his family have decided to go away again. I really wanted to invite friends this year and now feel obliged to invite mum and dad instead. Problem is before Andrew died mum always went to his and we went to them boxing day. I dont want to start the routine that they always come to us. Am i uust being selfish. I don't have the room for everyone.
Sorry to go on but its been playing on my mind :)

Re: Christmas present opening. There is only MrD and I in our house.. but there is no way on earth I could possibly wait till night time to watch MrD open his gifts!! I get so excited I get no sleep the night before, and have to wait till around 6 before I'm allowed to wake him up :)

  • Hi guys, I've been drooling over the range and halfcost websites but unfortunately they have joined the increasing band of companies that don't post to the Scottish Highlands, even though I'm on mainland. It's so depressing. I don't know why they do that as it doesn't cost any more than posting anywhere else in the uk, unfortunately they class us as an island.

OMG 'Grease' is on E4. I know its not directly a xmas film but I absolutely love it, and its always on at xmas, and I love the songs, and so I will watch it from the beginning on E4 +1 and sing along like a loon :D

LOL My favourite Xmas film is White Christmas. My kids hate it. But they still got it for me a couple of years ago, when I got upset it WASN'T ON TV.
All the carp they put on, and all forgot White Christmas.

I really shouldn't start thinking about Christmas TV as is makes me cross.
As we have a quiet Christmas, the TV can be the only festivities me and DD really get. But every year they seem to get worse.

I rush out and get the Christmas TV guide on the day it is published, and spend the whole evening with a felt tip pen, ringing what we are going to watch over the Christmas period. And every year I seem to ring less and less.:(

I don't watch soap operas, so that is 2 channels that are a no go. Do people really spend Christmas evening and night watching back to back episodes of them ?

I know Christmas is for children, but a lot of adults spend the day alone, with only the TV for company.:(

    ON A BRIGHTER NOTE -

I only have 5 more presents to get :j

2 calenders with wipe cleans boards at the top (Card Factory - Mum and Gt Aunt)
1 T-Shirt (Any sports shop I see one Ds will wear)
1 Box Biscuits (M & S - for elderly lady across the road who pays window cleaner for me) ( I do pay her back :rotfl:)
1 Box of Festive Friends ( DD best friend)

( By the way- That's not all I get them !)

Then everybody is finished, and anything I see after that will be a bonus gift.:j:j

I find this kind of dilemma really difficult to answer as for me, christmas is totally about family, but I appreciate it's not the same for everyone else. For me, I couldn't leave them on their own.

You may find that if you do invite them this year they may start to expect it every year - especially if they are geting on in years! Can you invite friends and invite your parents for boxing day?
Do they live lose enough so you could pop over to their house on Xmas morning/evening?
