I wish we had a primark. Not really worth travelling 40 miles for 2 pairs of fleecy pajamas though!

Is anyone like me, i think , yes ill get the presents in the 3 for 2 argos...then dont cos im convised a better deal will come along...then it never does!!

I know what you mean I've bought from the 3 for 2 before and then later in the year they have the items heavily reduced, I just like to know the gifts are in and feel more reassured being organised. I might get the main toys in on the 3 for 2 and then hold off for other offers............I can hardly sleep for planning what to buy!!!!
  • I'm waiting for the Sainsburys half price toy deal myself. Works out the best of all the toy deals IMO.

Ooooh got some lovely stuff. Could buy loads of stuff. Really need a new Christmas tree this year, some of the branches fell off last yeasr. Still waiting impatiently for the shops to get some decent Christmas stock in. Boots have got a bit but really want the cataloge. Poundlands and 99p store are rubbish, cant get to either tescos or morrisons this week, booooo.

Im really hoping argos start there 3 for 2 this week, that would really help me out with the kiddies Christmas pressies. Debating on whether to start he elf tradition this year. Had a read through the elf thread and got loads of ideas on pinterest, need to try to work how much it might end up costing. Haven't mentioned it to Dh yet as he thinks i'm obsessed enough already with Christmas no mind about starting yet another Christmas tradition.

Nipped into Primani and they've got some lovely pj's in, everones commenting at work that they've gone up to much but they have everywhere and my kids ones have lasted for literally years so i'm happy to buy them from there. Also bought a lovely wintery/Christmas cushion from there, think it was £4, Its got a fairisle /scandinavian type pattern with reindeers, its lovely.

oh fab! saw a picture of the blanket with the reindeer on from there this morning too didn't realise they do cushions too! adds to my shopping list for two weeks time lol aswell as pj's. :D excited

Hi been reading all of you're posts for a few days and you all have some fantastic ideas. I absolutely love Christmas but if i talk about it to my OH, I get THE look. lol

I need some help, I am making hampers for close family and really struggling for my mum. She loves Gordons Gin so was thinking of somehow incorporating this into the hamper but what else could i put with it?

Thanks and hope you don't mind me joining in.

What about a set of nice glasses she could use? And a DVD and sone nibbles she could have while chilling out with a drink? Limes? Do they go with gin, I don't know!

Mumofone - I'm glad it's just not me hahha!
  • Just googled it, http://www.whiskhampers.co.uk/products/wines_and_spirits/cocktail_kits/the_ultimate_gin__tonic,_fresh_lime_and_stilton_biscuit_kit.html

welcome to all the newbies :)

moneysavingmumofone sounds like you had a great day!

all this talk of christmas food is making me hungry (although to be honest, at 13 weeks pregnant, everything is making me hungry!) so ive currently got some little sausage rolls in the oven :o

when it comes to food in our house, i buy all sorts for our buffet on xmas eve. my mum and stepdad pop around and occaisonally my brother too. i can offer them all food, without going to the bother of actually cooking for them :D, we then eat it for tea. everything goes in the fridge to be picked at on xmas day.
i do a breakfast (if anyone wants any, usually dont!) then if hungry, pick from the buffet in fridge. a traditional christmas dinner at between 1-3 depending on how long the toys take to put together! the buffet is then finished off for xmas night tea along with any cold meats etc from the dinner.
we go to the inlaws for boxing day dinner and tea.

so meal wise it isnt too bad.
in regards of treats i usually buy loads of different tins of biscuits from m+s (not actually for the biscuits, they just ahve the nicest tins ever :D) and i make sure the cupboards are full of crisps, choccies etc. there isnt much fresh so any waste is mimimal (sp?)

every year dh and i try and think of one luxurious food item that we dont have throughout the year. as when we were kids there was always something that only appeared at christmas. for me it was pickled onions  and for dh it was fizzy pop :). of course these are much easier to buy now then they were then and we usually cant think of anything!
last year dh decided on a prawn ring and i got some duck for new years eve.
cant think of anything for this year that i dont normally have.

whats your one foodie christmas treat?

was pork pie when I was a kid :) but now it's smoked salmon, they always do a big pack half price in M&S mid December and I save vouchers back for it, have it with our Christmas Eve buffet, then a bit for starter with Christmas dinner. Also champagne, which we have Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, I save vouchers and buy it when it's on offer, M&S pink champagne they usually do half price at Valentines so I get it and keep it in cool dark cupboard ...hidden away where I can't get at it!

oddly Tia Maria makes me think of Christmas, sometimes i have a small bottle in if it's on offer, especially for coffee - the smell of clementines makes me think Christmas too!

it's usually half term week in October, not great timing as you either have to take kids with you or hide stuff til they are in bed to get it out the car! :)
