    Xmas Saver!
When my daughter was young she was intolerant to milk, so shop advent calendars were out.

I didn't have enough money to buy a canvas one.

So I bought loads of boxes of matches and glued them together.
I then draw the front of a house the same size. Cut it into rectangles, and glued them to the front of the boxes.
I made a roof out of a shoe box, added a chimney, and put cotton wool in it for smoke.

You can then either add little handles and cover the back. Or leave the back open and push the drawers open that way.

Don't forget to number them !!

I then put little jelly sweets in them.

I also got some felt, cut the childrens names out, and glued them to pillow cases. I them just tacked round the edges. We still use them now.
My son may not like Christmas but he likes his named sack.:D

Own my own Thank you so much for the app, I am downloading now. Its ideal for my as Im forever on my phone and this way I can lock the list so the bf has no idea of things Im after for him!

Snugglebunny My monopoly still hasnt arrived, I rung on Monday & they said it had been shipped then but they didnt know how long it would take. Thank goodness we are organised & its Sept not Dec!!

Hi Ms Bertha, your hubby sounds a little like my bf. I go on and on and I know hes switched off but he pretends well to be listening haha!

Moneysavingmumofone you are my kind of girl! Dancing in the isles sounds very much like me! When ever I see things in shops, I just gorp for a while pretty much like a kid in a toy shop! It sounds like you did well in h&b too!!

Also Primark had some more gift wrap & bags etc today and I also noticed by the tills they had some cute little sets for writing a list for santa, with a christmas pencil included. They looked lovely :)

Also went past a shop called Cargo which ive googled and seem to be based in the South East of the UK (but do have a site -with nothing on yet though) who had christmas decs for sale.
They had quite a large section near the front window and the glitter caught my eye, so I popped in for a gander. Was some lovely stuff but in very bright colours like lime greens & pinks etc. They did have empty shelving where they we getting out the more 'traditional' decs so might pop back in a few days and see what goodies they have!

    Xmas Saver!
Just thought I'd let you all know I have a little thread going inside the ' who doesn't have a stock cupboard' thread. My mini thread is ' My Christmas Stock Cupboard'
    .
Every week between now (we are on week 3) and Dec I buy one or two household items for Christmas/ January. I do this so when I do my Christmas shop I can get nice things (like wine) ! and I have some bits for January.

    I have Shampoo/ Conditioner
    2 Sweet and Sour Sauce
    Kitchen Towel
    Washing Up Liquid
    Coloured Washing Powder Tablets

It starts on page 39 if anyone is interested in joining in :)

  • Hi everyone, including even more newbies

After seeing about the Best Christmas app am assuming its on apple as I can't find on android market thingy? Did find one(xmas gifts list-its a little android man in a santa suit) that lets me add people and their gifts both bought and to buy, with the prices and so adds my spent budget up for me(saves me doing it) I have downloaded it, even though I only have 3 people to buy for now, so I'm pretty much sorted and don't actually need it. But I'm keeping it as it has pretty christmas pictures :o

  • welcome to all the newbies :)

moneysavingmumofone sounds like you had a great day!

all this talk of christmas food is making me hungry (although to be honest, at 13 weeks pregnant, everything is making me hungry!) so ive currently got some little sausage rolls in the oven :o

when it comes to food in our house, i buy all sorts for our buffet on xmas eve. my mum and stepdad pop around and occaisonally my brother too. i can offer them all food, without going to the bother of actually cooking for them :D, we then eat it for tea. everything goes in the fridge to be picked at on xmas day.
i do a breakfast (if anyone wants any, usually dont!) then if hungry, pick from the buffet in fridge. a traditional christmas dinner at between 1-3 depending on how long the toys take to put together! the buffet is then finished off for xmas night tea along with any cold meats etc from the dinner.
we go to the inlaws for boxing day dinner and tea.

so meal wise it isnt too bad.
in regards of treats i usually buy loads of different tins of biscuits from m+s (not actually for the biscuits, they just ahve the nicest tins ever :D) and i make sure the cupboards are full of crisps, choccies etc. there isnt much fresh so any waste is mimimal (sp?)

every year dh and i try and think of one luxurious food item that we dont have throughout the year. as when we were kids there was always something that only appeared at christmas. for me it was pickled onions  and for dh it was fizzy pop :). of course these are much easier to buy now then they were then and we usually cant think of anything!
last year dh decided on a prawn ring and i got some duck for new years eve.
cant think of anything for this year that i dont normally have.

whats your one foodie christmas treat?

  • sorry for the essay! :o

    also forgot to add;
since the kids have been old enough i have told them they can each pick a food treat that isnt sweets or choc.
this can get interesting, dd has been involved for 2 years now and both times has chosen 'cheesy footballs' although she doesnt like them :rotfl:
ds has picked, babybels, cheese strings and cheese slices (which i always have in anyhow!). he doesnt even like cheese :rotfl:

i donmt know why i do it to be fair,
