    sorry for the essay! :o

    also forgot to add;
since the kids have been old enough i have told them they can each pick a food treat that isnt sweets or choc.
this can get interesting, dd has been involved for 2 years now and both times has chosen 'cheesy footballs' although she doesnt like them :rotfl:
ds has picked, babybels, cheese strings and cheese slices (which i always have in anyhow!). he doesnt even like cheese :rotfl:

i don't know why i do it to be fair,

Ha ha, my kids are the same, if they come shopping with me..(which is quite rarely now as i do an online supermarket shop as i cant face supermarket shopping with the kids!) but my DS/DD all ways pick up those cheese items, and they get left in the fridge for ages until I normally eat them, they still insist that they love them!!
I have no idea why kids do this..must be the power of the TV ads
But I love your idea of asking them for a food choice, I might try this closer to christmas :)
  • Sorry can't find the post now, but who bought the chocolates to put in the hampers ?

Me and Dd make our own chocolates. One year she bought 4 friends home to make them for they Mums.

Lakeland sell silicone moulds for £4.99 Ref 16442
( Sorry I still haven't got the hang of links or multi quotes )

Anyway, get a mould, and some basic eating chocolate (Not to basic :))
You will need White,Milk and Dark.
    Kendal Mint Cake
    Chopped Nuts
    Raisins
    Dried Cranberries

With the above you can make so many different combinations.

Buy some cheap nice mugs out of 99p store etc.
A couple of hot choc sachets for each mug.

In an clear gift bag (lakeland £3 for 50 12007) put some shredded paper, the mug, hot choc, and your home made chocs.

Or you can just put your chocs in on they own.

The initial cost the first year is £8 plus gift. But following years it is a lot cheaper.

Grandparents love gifts made by Dearest Grandchildren :D

Not been on for a while and peps seem to be doing great.

I'm doing a craft fair tomoz and hoping the weather holds out as the sale money will go towards xmas and making up more bits to sell. Found out someone at work does candleas and after someone to share stalls with so we'll be joining forces to cut stall costs.

Few bits arrived from toys r us. dd2 is counting down BUT i have found out its not for christmas but she knows after christmas is her birthday!!!

Ooooh got some lovely stuff. Could buy loads of stuff. Really need a new Christmas tree this year, some of the branches fell off last yeasr. Still waiting impatiently for the shops to get some decent Christmas stock in. Boots have got a bit but really want the cataloge. Poundlands and 99p store are rubbish, cant get to either tescos or morrisons this week, booooo.

Im really hoping argos start there 3 for 2 this week, that would really help me out with the kiddies Christmas pressies. Debating on whether to start he elf tradition this year. Had a read through the elf thread and got loads of ideas on pinterest, need to try to work how much it might end up costing. Haven't mentioned it to Dh yet as he thinks i'm obsessed enough already with Christmas no mind about starting yet another Christmas tradition.

Nipped into Primani and they've got some lovely pj's in, everones commenting at work that they've gone up to much but they have everywhere and my kids ones have lasted for literally years so i'm happy to buy them from there. Also bought a lovely wintery/Christmas cushion from there, think it was £4, Its got a fairisle /scandinavian type pattern with reindeers, its lovely.

  • Hello ((waves)))
Am very organised this year :-)

All family and friends presents bought already from sales throughout the year..The Outlaws(MIL and FIL) who are both remarried are getting hampers from Ringtons delivered here nearer Chrimbo.so thats them sorted.

Intending to buy cards for family this week-list made just need to get them and put them away.

Christmas nostalgia for me is sitting down to watch the dvd of 'The Box Of Delights' that was on bbc when i was in Junior school in mid 80s.Really takes me back.

Finally paid the balance on our winter wonderland break to Centerparcs end of November..Have pre booked pony ride to santa and santa visit in advance online..cant believe how booked up that was..but dd who will be 5 will love it..cant really afford to book anything else in advance right now..

Loving this thread..the build up to Christmas is my favourite thing..not too fussed with Christmas day myself..lol..its the christmas fayres..nativity at school..carol singers. :-)
  • christmas food i learn as i go along i relised last year not to buy to much sweet stuff as kids get lots of selection boxes of various family members and couple gifts for me n oh our often boxes of buiscuts or tins of choc

so this year i will just buy 1 tin of chocs to have thruout december iced mince pies/normal mince pies and stollen for visters with cups of tea :) alway lots on in dec nativity plays, school fair etc and my mum/dad and grandparents want to visit as children make christmas :D

will try and get diffent cheeses as soon as poss went xmas eve last year n adsa onli had brie  yuk! and pick up crisps/crackers/pickles 1 or 2 per week. cant pick up frozen things early as we only have a 3 drawer frezzer to feed 5 peeps it full on a thurs and empty on weds

yes im thinking a xmas meal planner/food list would be a good idea

am planning our xmas eve hamper going to homebargins 2moro and will pick up some popnbox popcorn :)

i remember on xmas eve as a child we would do the whole santa thing then my dad would sit us down turn off tv and lights and light this

When my mum was sorting through her Christmas decorations a few years ago she tried to get rid of our one of those! Needless to say I rescued it, it is a permanent part of Christmas for me.

I also tried to have an Advent Candle a couple of years ago. The only trouble I had was remembering to blow it out when it had melted down for the one day - I ended up only having to light it every few days!
